I'm trying to get the old Links to work on my computer without success. It displays blotchy. The swing meter is cut in half. I tried to run compatibility mode and that doesn't seem to work either. My computer is 7th generation i7, and graphics is GeForce GTX 1070. If anyone can help, do you need more information?

Most likely your solution lies  on LINKS CORNER Forum,

Free to join, and I'm sure there are players that have

moved LINKS to newer PC's

Make sure your AA in the graphics card is down to x2 or application controlled

I am currently running Links 2K3  with the latest patch on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit platform with a GTX 1060 graphics card on a 60" screen 1980x1020 native res. Go to Links Corner and go into the forum. If you are not running the last released patch, in the forum there are instructions on how to properly install it. Also, if you are running the game on widescreen like I am, changes must be applied to the point value in the registry. This procedure is also well explained in the Links forum. I have also used Nvidia graphic cards with the Links Patform. This was the only card that would allow me to force AA into the Links sim as high as 8x. This worked great with every nvidia card up to the end of the 900 series. It eliminated all the jagged edges around cart paths , bunkers and so forth. Unfortunately the newer cards will not let you force AA into this simulation. Doing so results in weird graphic issues within the game. Disappearing golfer is just one of many visual issues. Setting your AA to Application Controlled will not introduce AA into the game. The release of this game did not provide for manual AA settings within the game. Nvidia graphic cards however, let you force AA and eliminate all those nasty jaggies which appeared frequently within the course designs. If you are unable to find the information yourself, ask members of the forum if you have any questions. They have a great group of people that will answer any questions that you may have.

Replied to this on the Any Updates for PG2 post in the Perfect Golf section of the forum.

Here is the situation for me. I was able to run both Links 2K3 and TW08 on the Windows 7 Platform with my prior GTX 960 card. I was also able to force AA into both sims eliminating all apparent jaggies in both sims without any problems. Microsoft in all their wisdom automatically updated people using Windows 7 to Windows 8 for a certain period of time. Once I realized what had happened, I found that neither L2K3 or TW08 was working. I this same time frame I upgraded my video card to a GTX1060 to accommodate the PG sim. It is important to note that the GTX 1060 card is not compatible with any earlier platform earlier than Windows 7. In other words the 1060 or newer version will not run these sims in XP or Vista. I uninstalled the windows 8 update and reinstalled  my windows 7 platform. In TW08, the newer 1060 card runs perfectly and allows AA set at 8x perfectly. The Links 2K3 game also runs flawlessly but does not for some reason allow you to force any AA settings into the game. Trying to do so, results in strange graphic issues when launching the courses. I am running both platforms in 1980x1020 res. on a 60" screen and all my downloaded courses really look stunning. Because I have removeable drives, it allows met to run Windows 7, 8 & 10 on one machine. I have been doing this for quite some time and it has worked well for me. I am sure that the problems that are occurring with Links & TW are platform, graphic card or a combination of both issues.

I still have the disks but decided to buy 2k3 from  linkscountryclub.com as DLC (less hassles on W10). The DLC is cheap too and you can copy all your saved courses to the new course folder after you install the game. NOTE: Uninstall the CD version of the game first BUT make sure to cut your current course folder and paste it to the desktop. Same with Polyani if you have special players you created. The uninstall will not delete either folder since they are on the desktop.

After the new installation you can copy the courses from within the cut folder and paste them into the new course folder.

I like to play windowed mode for Links.  Here is a video of the game at 1270x720. https://youtu.be/0XnIeWD6wKg

These are my graphics settings:

bgast1, you may need to perform a registry tweak or two to get things working (I can't comment on AA and Links in Windows 10, but that doesn't seem to be your issue).

Before the registry tweaks, make sure you have installed the 1.07 update and the patch for nVidia/Win7.  Make sure they install to the directory where you have Links 2003 installed.  See Steps 3 and 4 of this post (note the install path may be different for you):

http://linkscorner.o...p=309528#309528

If the above doesn't resolve all the issues, then you may have to try some registry tweaks.  Refer to my post a little later in that same thread:

Just curious, what platform and video card are you running the Links sim on? Now that you have it running properly, have you tried forcing any AA into the game?

I have AA set so that the software determines whether to use it or not. I have an old Republic of Gamers laptop. Video is nVidiae Geforce GTX 1070

Thanks for the response. If you have the AA set to Application Controlled, no AA will be applied to the game. As I mentioned in my earlier post, Links 2K3 made no provisions for AA settings. In the past, only the nvidia cards allowed you to override any applied settings and  let you force AA into the 2K3 game as high as 8x. Unfortunately, the newer nvidia cards do not provide forcing AA  into Links without experiencing numerous graphic issues.

i am running it at 1920x1080 with 4x AA and it is smooth as silk- you need to do the regedit tweak to get some extra resolutions= highest I believe is 1600x1200 but looks a bit odd on my panel. running win 10 Pro, 9900k @ 5GHZ, 32GB Ram and RTX2080ti

time to dig out all those old classic courses me thinks

I too play Links 2003 at  1920x1080 when making some videos of the courses.  Mostly I play in Windows Mode because I like to keep my Windows 10 Scaling set at 125%.  Legacy games don't always look good on a Scaled Screen.  When I do play at 1920x1080 I put the scaling back to 100%, the games loads beautifully and plays smoothly.

Seeing Links2K3 HD courses at 1920x1080 is incredible.  The best we all got in the old days was 1280x1024.

Here is a link to the Country Club where you can download the nVidia Patch.  Just install it again and it may help the resolution problem without needing to make changes in the Registry user Links 2003/Display Settings.

https://www.linkscou...ub.com/download

All patches are there and up-to-date.
