Is there any kind of protocol that you guys adhere to when to comes to releasing a course for player input/suggestions? Or is it even done?

I have 12 holes more or less completed. In the next week or so, I'll have all 18 holes. Here is what they will all have completed:

Green with all flag positions (3 each of Difficult, Medium and Easy)
Bunkers
Fairway
Roughsemi
Rough
Tees (Championship, Back, Member, Forward and Ladies)
Hazards
Out of Bounds
Water
General foliage on each hole to help establish the general "personality" of the course
Flybys
Place holder images

There will be some tweaking that I know I need to do on each hole along with smoothing shorelines on ponds/lakes. I will have to create textures and then there s a ton of detail that I have to do to.

It just seems like if I'm going to ask for input/suggestions that I save the tweaking and detail until I get some feedback.

Or do you guys just release a fully completed course and then ask for input/suggestions?

For my builds, I try get as close to completion as possible.  Then I ask people I know to play it a few times before releasing as a beta.

Sometimes people don't take the time to provide feedback during the beta.  Well, they might if there are glaring problems, but often times people just play the beta as another course to satisfy their desire to play something new.  This isn't beta testing and really doesn't help the designer.

That said, there are a couple different forums that have excellent beta testers.  Kevin G and Slicopotomus will put a course through the ringer!  Those guys provide an invaluable service to the course builders.

As long as you're clear about the state of the course and your objective in releasing it you won't have any hassles.

So is there someplace to sign up for testing? I have just played a few "real courses " that some pins are questionable at best and a few have really poor tee boxes that are sloped or very bumpy. I even played one just tonight that had a floating bridge not tied into the land at all and hung above you in mid air with no land around it. I haven't designed for this game but did some in tw08 and tested courses for tournaments at the old PGAX and later when they changed names. I wouldn't mind in helping test so that some of these issues hopefully get noticed. I just don't know the procedure in doing so.

I don't think any designers would be interested in fixing small problems to release to a small audience.  I guess you could find out the designer's name on PGLS and search here to see if they're active; if they are you could PM them.

We sorta need a finished Manila or beta Oakmont to provide a shot of adrenaline at this point.

If you're referring to some of the courses that were released roughly 2 weeks ago over at PGLS. A lot of those are courses from 2015- 2018 and are still beta. A lot of those designers aren't even here to finish them. Or they were released under a different name for the final.

As far as testing new courses currently. Create a account over at PGLS. Click on forums, and scroll down to about the bottom of the page. You'll see a section that says courses. There's a beta course testing area. Go in there and that's where the designers post links to their beta courses. The other place to look is right here at PP. Look under community course discussions. You'll find courses listed in their that are up for beta testing. The designers are always looking for feedback.

If you want to even test every pin location PGLS has a createAgame feature. There you can set a round up to test each individual pin.

Go to community course discussions. Scroll down to Kinloch GC Virginia beta. I posted a video in their of how to set up a createAgame over at PGLS to test individual pins. You can set up what ever conditions you want. It's a real neat way to test courses. You can also set one up to shoot with a group.
