Even tho I'm totally lost following this thread I find it most interesting! Don't know why!

Pappy, I've never ventured into the launch simulator realm because I know I'll never be able to afford one.  I must admit that now that I've been sort of drawn into it tangentially because of Trackman 4's use of Virtual Golf 2, I'm finding the technologies used by the various launch simulators fascinating!  So yeah... I follow your thinking on this!

Here's a link to a You Tube video of a Trackman 4/Virtual Golf 2 full round at Sweetens Cove.  It's rendered smoothly in 1080p, although for the first time in the Virtual Golf 2 videos and images I've seen thus far, the difference isn't as obvious in this one.  The 3D rough doesn't really show the advantages of Turf Effects, but it might be down to the late evening lighting used and the lack of a much light rough at this course.  The panorama looks really nice as does the sky dome.  The winds are pretty much still so there's nothing to see in terms of sashaying tree foliage in this one.

https://www.youtube....h?v=v_gxJpqofpU

What impressed me most about this video is how quickly the ball's flight is depicted on the screen on full shots.  There's almost no delay between the impact of the ball on the screen and the animation depicting the ball flight starting.  This guy also gives us the first look at the "Broadcast Camera" perspective on the cut views, and I really liked it, although I'd prefer to have cut views that were more reverse than side angle.  None the less, I strongly prefer the Broadcast view shown here to Follow Cam, which I shied away from in the early Tiger Woods PGA Tour series years.

Finally, I thought the putting looked pretty decent.  The player in the video had some very believable results with his 10 to 20 foot putts he hit.  There was a bout a two second delay between the putt strike and the ball rolling on the green, but the path an behavior looked consistent with the strike.  It's just a shame that Virtual Golf 2 software is playing to such a small audience, when there are millions of gaming computers and consoles that could support it so well  :(

Good link JC

I've definitely solidified my opinion that this is, as was largely expected, a very evolutionary upgrade with lots of small tweaks and niceties.

I still maintain that the lighting is now a bit more dynamic and has more range to it also.

Even though it's not new to VG2, I sure wish we could get any of the interface improvements.  I love the live ball on the overhead map (and the overhead map in general) and the clean, modern, presentation of the interface, particularly in game.

Also - I would assume it probably leverages modern hardware better and performs better overall as a result.

That is always a nice upgrade on any software.

Finally - it would just be amazing to be on a platform that's still being developed.

There's something a bit disheartening in knowing that "what you have" is "all you'll get".

In further viewing I did see some instances of what looked to be Turf Effects rough, so it was nice to see that.  I agree that the lighting is more naturally dynamic.  I could see what looked to be performance improvements in the animations, ball flight and roll depiction and overhead map.  It still just freakin' kills me that this innovation is going to be playing to such a small audience, granted a small audience with extremely deep pockets though.  Virtual Golf 2 could run so well on an XBox One X and PS4 Pro, not to mention likely 4K/60 FPS performance on a PS5 and XBox One Scarlett next year.... (sigh)

I've not seen any.  I didn't like the putt line being shown in the video I linked though.  That's like something out of Amateur mode in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07!

Yeah - straight up "putt preview line"..

I think Rory had that as an option also..

Popped in today to look for a surprise, New Year's Day "Virtual Golf 2  (PC)" announcement... haven't seen one yet.  Maybe I should check in at Trackman's site as well.... [/PollyAnna]   ;)

That ugly ass sky is killing that instagram video for me, do they have to show that stupid dusk sky in every video?

It maybe they are using a dynamic sky as well where the sun is actually producing the light but it still looks bad for some reason. It again could be those ugly ass skies. Give me partly cloudy with a real blue sky instead of that crap. Everything also seems so darn green, maybe the lighting is just to bright.

Hillwood CC looks like they probably used overlay technique (at least for fairways). That's the first time I've seen them do that. Whoever's making their courses is improving. Color schemes a little more natural in my opinion as well.

If PG2 doesn’t have online multiplayer and no online tournament play, would you still want it?

No interest at all!  Multiplayer IMHO is a must.  Tournament play is also valued but of lesser importance than multiplayer.

Are those all real courses? The names are all pretty generic. I feel like there's a Hillcrest Country Club in every place I've ever lived.

They seem to be -- they have real world locations (generally) in the video when the names are on screen.

Dayum those screen shots look good!  I'd guess that's Sebonack GC?  We desperately need Virtual Golf 2 on the desktop with mo-capped customizable golfers - one can dream though, can't he?  B)
