A note to the designers out there, but thank you again for the 3D grass.

I'm back on an NVIDIA card (simple pre-owned 1070 I got for a song) and the courses with the grass are truly sensational!

I really enjoyed Spanish Bay and Scioto last night...

Thank you again.  The grass is definitely awesome to have when one has the right GPU.

It looks and performs dramatically better on this Nvidia card.

Good to be back isn't it? I would'nt be without an Nvidia card.

Didn’t want to be, but had macOS concerns on this build for most of the last year.

I wish I could say the golf game got me to do something about it, but I’d be lying.

I split out my macOS situation so that this gaming build could focus exclusively on Windows/NVIDIA and the upcoming MSFS

The new and vastly improved Microsotf Flight Simulator is the next “simulation game” I’m looking forward to the most.

I was big into flight (combat) simulations a couple decades ago and I’m hoping MSF will get me back into them again.

You don't know where I could score a similar deal on a 6 GB+ 1070 do you?  Forza 7 actually drives/handles considerably better on my PC than it does my XBox One X, but the Geforce 1060 3 GB card that's in it is only good for one race with Forza 7, before the memory leak problems of the game on the PC version cripple it.  I wouldn't mind having a little performance boost with TGC 2019 and JNPG either

Yeah, this is really getting my attention right now, and I've never been that big of a flight sim buff.  I think the XBox One X ought to be up to delivering a pretty solid performance with this.  I'm really curious to see how it'll do on the XBox Series X though  :o

I got mine locally for $140 (EVGA 1070 FTW3 8GB - very nice version of the 1070) off CL.

But the other place I've had great success are reddit's hardwareswap sub.

Those are some of the last options with "no sales tax" also, which is sort of key in getting a great preowned deal.

Thanks for the tips and information.  It gives me a good reference point.  I'll definitely check out reddits hardwareswap!

Just download a course with 3DG in its name and play it. No need to turn it on.

You can find courses here: https://pgls.golflad...9d28aee8aa42109

Who cares...

I wonder if it is more an issue with what little unused memory left getting filled up (like storing textures in a cache) than a leak. What resolution are you running? lowering it should require less memory to run.

So I'm back on AMD now with an XFX RX 5600 XT and it's running simply stunningly good..

60fps locked, all over the place, even buried in 3D grass and around all the taxing true reflective water courses.

Also - it's dead quiet and runs cool and seemingly effortlessly with PG.

Mind you, I only play PG @ 1080p, so YMMV.

I'll try to test at 4k later on this week/weekend and report back on that also.

Sorry I missed your reply earlier in this thread Wirenut, so let me answer you now.  I'm running Forza 7 at 1080p on my PC when I see what I'm calling the memory leak phenomenon.  If I back the res down to 720p from launch, I don't see the problem, but the graphics are unacceptable at that res, especially when I'm used to running the game at 4k 60 FPS on my XBox One X.

I'll probably eventually buy a 6 or 8 GB Geforce GTX 1070, especially now that I've gotten hooked into iracing again after a three year hiatus.  That Fox Sports 1 broadcast of the NASCAR eracing using iracing last week at Homestead pulled me in.  I can run iracing at 4K on my system even with the 3 GB 1060 and it averages in the low to mid 70s in frame rate.  Unfortunately, it tends to drop into the 50s at irregular yet infrequent intervals.  I'm thinking the additional processing power and expanded memory of a 6 GB 1070 would help with this.

iracing has good force feedback support, but it's not up to the superb force feedback support Forza 7 affords my Thrustmaster TX Leather wheel.  I'd love to be able to run both Forza 7 and iracing with confidence and no fear of 'memory leakage'.  :)

Thanks for this report, and I would be interested to read of your results with this card at 4K.  I may consider an AMD card as an alternative to my current 1070 plans.  After seeing some of the courses being released for PG over the past few weeks, I've decided I'm going to brush the cobwebs off my installation and try to rekindle my interest in the game.

@JC I do believe the issue your having is insufficient memory to load textures into so its having to fetch them from the HD, which is why you see the performance drop. Higher the resolution the more memory required. I would stick with Nvidia and look into upgrading to a 20 series to get the newer tech like Ray Tracing which is a big step in visuals. For 4k I would recommend saving up a bit longer to get at least a 2060 Super  with 8GB Vram to get in the 60 fps range.

The RX 5600XT 6Gb is about the same, performance-wise, as a GTX 1660Ti 6Gb and both are $280-$300 new.

The RX 5700XT 8Gb is about the same as a RTX 2060 Super 8Gb and go for around $400 new.

I just want to re-iterate that I'm in no way trying to start an NVIDIA/AMD comparison or back forth.

I needed to go back to AMD for my Hackintosh usage for video work (typing on it now).

I will say that these Navi cards have changed my perception of the AMD lineup.

This card is dramatically better than anything before from AMD that I'd used

Thanks for the tips Wirenut.  I didn't even know a 2060 line was coming!?  I don't play any PC games outside of iracing, Forza 7, TGC 2019 and PG, so I'm having to weigh the cost of an upgrade against that.
