They are reaping what they sow. The 'culture' is a killer for young people, and the obsession with 'correct' dress is the worst.

A few years back, turned up early in the morning at my local 9-hole course in the peeing rain (I was very keen). Only me and and a club official on the course. On the first tee, he came over for a word. The conversation went something like this:

Me: "Hi!"

Him: "Are you wearing tracksuit bottoms?"

Me: "No, they're overtrousers."

Him: "They look like tracksuit bottoms to me and we don't allow those here."

Me: "Well, they're overtrousers. In case you hadn't notice, it's chucking it down."

Him: "I'll let it go this time, but we don't want to see that kind of attire here."

Guess what? He didn't, because I never went back.

I am in Sweden and we have not seen or heard about a down trend in golf here. I t was long ago if ever golf was viewed as an exclusive sport, of 10 million inhabitants we have nearly 0.5 million registered players so it is one of our biggest sports or recreations rather for most. So with 5% of the population golfing we must be pretty high in the statistics of players per capita.

I am a member of Öijared GC with three 18-hole courses and an iron course and I pay 800 Euro per year and no initial member fee for unlimited play.

Is everyone self isolating here?

...my course is so quiet these days I can often complete a round and barely see another golfer.

This sounds ideal during these times.

yep - working from home as much as possible over the next 2 weeks.  The upside is I don't have to deal with administrative BS (I can get real work done).  The downside is the wife is on admin leave (not work from home status) so it's like 2 weeks of home projects for her.

...I might have to force myself to isolate in my office.

I always suspected Crystal was a rainbow type person - unicorns too perhaps?

Speaking of those elusive creatures (unicorns), I heard there was once this nearly perfect golf game called Perfect Golf.  Promises were made of real life physics and picture perfect visuals that would leave customers speechless.  Features included a Career Mode and endless player animations with custom clothes.  The developers were such savvy businessman they would be in constant communication with their fellow golf community....such a harmonious existence that would be.  But all was not as it may have seemed...

Then, the evil empire (Trackman) struck a deal with our virtuous lads to work on a secret project (VG2).  Money was exchanged for ideas...IP's were lost, bridges were burned.  Our lads were lost in a sea of NDA so deep that they couldn't even reply on their own forum.  Small snippets of communication by way of  emoji posts were like morse code from beyond.  What does this all mean...

I wanted this to take on a "Princess Bride" type theme, but it seems to be more like a "Star Wars" theme.  I think I've failed as a writer.

Overcome with nostalgia during these reflective times, I re-bought the original 2002 Mafia PC game on a Steam offer yesterday. Great game, but my word those cutting-edge graphics have dated. The characters look as though they have been chiseled from rock by an inept stonemason, the cars modeled from Lego, and the trees drawn by a kindergarten class. Ah, how we have moved on, I thought. Then I fired up Perfect Golf and, o-er, I came over all nostalgic again. Great game, but my word...

The best suggestion I can make is to install either or both Links 2003 and/or Tiger Woods PC PGA 2008.  Links 2003 can be downloaded from linkscountryclub.com but TW08 requires a DVD with a Key. Links 2003 (downloaded) is a very straight forward installation for Windows 10 but TW08 requires extra files and two apps to make it play on Windows 10. Once it's running at 1920 x 1080 it looks great (considering it's age).

I am an expert on the installation of TW08. Feel free to PM me if you need help with the installation of TW08 and/or the Caddie 64 bit.  Or simply visit me at  mousegolf.com and see what I offer to install TW08.  I've installed it on 15 gamers' W10 computers in the last 45 days. Those people either found their old DVD or purchased one at eBay or Amazon. Just be sure that the Key is included with a used DVD.  Good prices out there are $25.00 for a used DVD. New, unopened boxes can be very expensive in relative to their original cost. Some ask $75.00 for a pristine box.

Coursedownloads.com is THE place to download hundreds of free courses and utilities, including the Caddie for course installation. Everything at CDL is free now.

Due to this unprecedented pandemic all of us are preparing to play  PC golf games offline (just in case PG) goes away.

Links 2003 and TW08 both have the ability to play online but if we all are stuck with playing offline, these two games come with all the bells and whistles and a bunch of stock courses.

Stay safe everyone and stay home.

I'm not complaining, just making a joke (or trying to) about the angular ani and the relative blockiness of trees etc. PG is my favourite game bar none. Despite a few shortcomings, graphical or otherwise, I think it's a brilliant and absorbing sim. The paltry amount I paid for it has been repaid (literally) a hundred-fold. The courses provided by community designers are superb, and I'm hugely grateful for the effort put into administering the weekly tournaments by PGLS guys. I should have made that clear from the outset - sorry.

@Joe

I agree with you on both counts. PG is the best-ever PC golf game for realism.  I also agree that PGLS has done a fantastic job of providing us with everything we could possibly ask for in regards to tournaments and challenge events.  I feel now that they are the only site of this kind that more events will be added. Their membership for PC and SIM play has grown in the hundreds since OGT closed as well as new players from Steam and YT viewers; not to mention word-of-mouth by those of us who have enjoyed PG since 2013.

HUGE thanks to Mark (owner) for creating the Course Checker, now version 1.12 to easily check for new downloads from PGLS data base.

Download Link for the new Course Checker:

Hear hear Joe - Totally agree

If it weren't for the community of course designers here, I'd honestly be playing TW14 and/or TW08 again at this point honestly.

Lee,

This is the image that plays out in my mind every time I encounter a 1) plugged lie 2) bounce/roll through deep rough that rolls with no friction to stop it, but has a huge distance or spin penalty on the return shot 3) OOB shots that don't follow golf rules 4) wind physics that don't make sense.  From conversations with Andrew, it seems like placeholders were put in place to come back to to fix the real situations...but that never happened.

The upside with PG1 golf is that they have a huge user base of course (~450) and that the graphics are way better that any previous golf game.  The downside is that they (original developers) don't seem to be coming back to finish what they started.  Having a shiny new golf IP would be great, but you would have to wait for the course library to catch up (to do a career mode).  I think it would be faster to patch PG1.

I'd like to hear from Andrew  himself, after all this is his IP (or used o be).

Regarding Country Clubs its good to have the choice to associate with only certain people if that is what you want and to require standards such as certain dress etc. if a person does not want to belong they do not have to it may seem racists or politically incorrect and if that is the argument then it is politically incorrect and racist for a person to dress casual and expect everyone else to do the same. Why can't men for example say we are going to have a club men only and we dress this way but you do not have to belong to this club if you do not want to and then women could do the same thing and different races could do the same thing why not

Little known fact when King Arthur was trying to make a golf course and he ran into some conflict. King Arthur: There's a peace only to be found on the other side of war. If that war should come I will fight it!    Other important fact. Read the Book of John in the Holy Bible.

I also think Golf has actually priced the casual golfer out of the game.   Cars, rent or mortgages payments make golf a entertainment expense many cant afford  Also before Arnold Palmer - golf was a rich mans game.   I think the game is reverting back to by gone days.  Just my opinion.

I don't feel so. It's more the optional things in golf that make it expensive, like range balls, new clubs, electric carts, beverages, premium balls, lessons. Green fees at modest courses are quite good when considering the land's opportunity value, maintenance costs, limit of people on the course at once and hours of entertainment you get.

Sure financial institutions are lending too much not leaving much disposable income, but golf isn't doing that.
