A young DPRoberts before he traded in his sticks for virtual golf.

Grew up in Columbus, Ohio and went to the Memorial Tournament every year. Used to sit next to the bridge right of 9 and get golf balls from the players or caddies coming off the green. Pond right of 9 has a food shack that had the largest carp in it. They'd eat a bag of chips, including the bag.

A young DoGgs (2nd right)  Under 21 UK team snooker championship winners...Wales!

My short game has always been my best asset when playing golf, i put that down to having good touch and feel around a snooker table, vitally important in snooker.

Back in 2005 i watched the film Walk the line ( Johnny cash story ) it inspired me to learn a bunch of his songs and take it on the road as a tribute act.  This video was my first ever practice attempt at singing  "I've been everywhere",  i was so raw lol i forget to turn the mic on at the start and you can see me glancing up to read the words as i had not quite learnt them before trying this.  The picture and audio is not great, i did not have a great phone back in 2005.  The popularity of the film gave me 2 years of fun out gigging around south wales, i still do it now from time to time.

see learning a lot bout folks, DP you and i grew up in the same neck of the woods

as i to am from Columbus, Oh, i would say by your pic i may have a couple of years on you but not many.

would not surprise me if we had both played a lot of the same courses in our youth, as i played a lot as a kid

cut my teeth on Minerva Lake in my early teens as i only lived less then a mile from there and could strap the clubs to the bycycle

and ride over to play many of 36 hole days, since back then if i remember right you could pay 5 bucks and play all you like. 50cents for a pull cart. spent a bunch of time on the then Stoneycreek , now Blacklick. every Sunday for a few years out at Blackhawk. and my family also had a membership out at Riveria CC out in Dublin within sight of the Murifield course. my parents owned a store called the House Of Golf out on the eastside on Refugee Rd just east from the old Eastland Mall back in the 70s.

small world there DP, where did you HS at me i went to Northland the little i did go,as by that time Motorcycles had gotten into my head

and golf and that part of my life then took a back seat to riding and never looked back.

thanks fella's for helping this thread out.

Neil, thanks for your service.

joe it looks like you have been around the world with your work, bet you have seen a lot.

doggs kinda figured you where a multi talented fella and i see you are.

Dave,

I learned to play on Wilson Road and Raymond Memorial. When I was around 12, my Dad joined York GC so most of my golf was out there.

But, I played a lot of local tournaments for grade school and high school (St Charles). So, I've played pretty much any course you can name in greater Columbus area. Unfortunately, some no longer exist like Riviera and Shamrock.

My mom used to run a Junior golf tournament for Children's Hospital at Shamrock.

I've gotten to compete against some good players in my time as well. Ben Curtis is just 1 year ahead of me. He would kick everyone's butt at the Mill Creek Pizza Hut open. He won a Ohio Am I played in at like 15 under. Next closest was 2 over or so. A few years after, he won the British.

My only golf claim to fame was finishing 4th in the A10 championships, 1 stroke behind Brendan de Jonge. I beat Johnson Wagner in that tournament but he was only a freshman and I was a senior.

I can't recall if I ever made it to House of Golf. My dad was big into fixing our clubs and we'd go to a lot of little repair shops and golf shops. Did it ever have a different name?

yea i remember some of those courses also, it was cool growing up in the golf world, lot different back then.

we did the National Sporting Goods Shows in Chicago during the early 70s we kept a booth, and i did get to meet a lot of the then time pros.

pretty cool, but by the age of 17 i was on my own, working in the old Buckeye Steal Foundry down on Parsons Ave, however i was riding my first new harley and happy as could be, think i spent about 6k back in 76. when the dollar, was a dollar.lol

another funny time i got to shake APs hand. i was working for a roofing company and doing a condo job on Satellite Beach Fl

was around 80/81 well i would see this guy pull up and park in the first garage nice caddy and i would watch him walk towards the door

and i would think damn that looks like arnold palmer, one day at the water cooler i said to the boss you seen that guy that looks like AP and he laughed and said yea he is the one who is paying us, last day on the job he came up on the roof to take a look and we all got to meet him and bs for a few. great fella.
