So, I accidentally deleted my Realistic Terrain Collection LITE terrain extension (as seen here).  I had to go back to the asset store and add it back in to my project and then re-add my terrain extension.  It went really well, and in about 25 mins I was back up where I left off.

Or so I thought.  The first thing I noticed was that my colors on the fairways, rough etc where not what they were prior to adding the terrain extension.  I tried to re-draw a spline and then it really went to crap. The color was very pale green like nothing else on the course.  I then noticed that noticed that one of the custom layers was missing all together.  Please see the pictures bellow and let me know if there are any suggestions.

The only thing that I can think of is that I added a texture to the second terrain (OUTERTERRAIN) and that texture came from the course forge library.  I used it to do some painting on OUTERTERRAIN.  I don't know why that would cause an issue, but I can't think of anything else I did that dealt with textures...

Anyway, things are all screwed up right now and I can't seem to get the splines to draw correctly.

Also, I tried to redraw one of the splines with the default layers library and it didn't work either.  But, when I reopened Unity the pale green fairways were back???

Here are a couple pics...

Edit.... here is a pic of what it looks like after closing Unity and reopening.  This feels very similar to the problem I had with having to many textures for painting.  Only I have the exact same that I had before deleting the terrain extension by accident. And... I got one of the other fairway splines to redraw without the splotches.  The splines do not match my custom layers library colors though.

Something else... it seems that texture O_FariwayCross doesn't work, on holes 1 and 2 but it does on other holes.  Switching to O_FairwayPlain worked for hole 2, but not hole 1... what in the world?!?!

Hmmm...  A few guesses

Are all of the textures you are trying to use for the layers located within the Perfect Parallel Libraries>Ironwood2 content folder?

In your last picture it looks like you have two different library content folders open.  Maybe you are mixing textures from both and CF is becoming confused which content folder you are using textures from.

For the weird mesh issues in the first two pictures, are you absolutely sure there are no splines overlapping or severe angles between 2 control points?  A severe angle can cause a mesh build error similar to your first picture.

Turning on Shaded Wireframe can help you spot the problem areas.

Also check your layers for this:

GF9nJrr.jpg

If you see a blank in the drop down box where it should say Grid Fill or Radial Fill, the meshes won't build correctly.  Reselect Grid Fill and remesh the splines. For some reason this sometimes happens later in a project and CF becomes a bit unstable.

Hope some of this helps. Good luck

Thanks for the suggestions bortimus.  I am on my way to work so I didn't get through all of them.  I did check the custom library though.  I opened each spline to make sure that each texture was coming from the Ironwood folder and they are.  The single custom layer I made is no longer there and the tweaks I made to fairway color and such are gone,  The textures are the same as the default library.

Also, I did check and the splines are set to grid fill.

The splines have not changed in awhile as all the holes are in and I have been working on vegetation and such.  So, I don't think there is a problem there, but I will double check tonight.

It was odd when I was checking the textures within the custom layers.  It was like my computer was bogged down with something.  Usually when you click the little box within the layers library you get instant feedback in the project folder.  It was a little slow this morning.  Everything is OK outside of Unity though.

I will double check your suggestions tonight.

Just updating where I am at with this problem... I still don't know whats going on, but I found two issues the second of which I fear will keep returning until I figure out what is up.  I hope maybe someone might be able to provide some feedback or maybe a suggestion.

Issues:

1.  Resolved - I had some spline edges that were overlapping.  I don't get this because all the splines have been down for weeks now and there has never been an overlapping issue before.  I don't know how they became a problem when they were perfectly fine for weeks. Anyway, I feel like this issue has been resolved.

2.  Not-resolved - my custom layers library was borked.  So, I recreated the library and everything seemed fine until I went to redraw hole 7 and all of the sudden Unity threw up a warning message and my custom library was no more.  Unity rebuilt the custom library with the default textures and the whole course looked whacked again.  It looks like its a script issue, but I am am basically clueless when it comes to scripts.

Here is the warning:

I've had that error with the library but couldn't clear it.

However, I utilized a workaround. Open your library and does it say "unknown" as the loaded library?

If it does, click load and navigate to your library .cfl inside your current Unity project location. It'll be in Assets-Perfect Parallel Libraries-whatever your custom folder is named. When you choose the .cfl and click open, it'll give the error. Click CANCEL and it'll load fine. I can't explain it but it works.

This .cfl is NOT the one in your Documents folder.

Downside is every time you do a test build it will dump out and go back to the "unknown" library. You can just do the same steps as above and it'll reload fine.

Sucks but the workaround is just that... Someone may actually have a true solution.

Let me know if what I'm texting doesn't make sense. I can do a quick video if needed.

Some explanations to issue 1.

It's not only spline position changes that can cause overlapping. In layers library you can adjust fade length of spline edge from 0-1 meter and you can have fringes enebled or not. These both have an effect what comes to overlapping with other outer or inner splines.

So, it's not just splines that can't overlap, it's the edges of the spline meshes too.  And if I understood correctly, you had adjusted some library settings.

PS. Mesh creation parameters only define how smooth are your spline's edges (beautiful round, no corners) and how dense is your grid for creating the mesh. Wrong values can cause some problems but they are a differrent kind.

Oh - a solution!  I will try this tonight.  If you hear a distant "wahoo" at around 5:30 PM EST, that will be me.

I understand what you are saying, but it still boggles me. The changes I made to my custom libraries were to color only.  All the splines have been in for weeks without issue so losing that library should not have resulted in the spline overlap issue?  Or would it?  Oh well, that part seems to be an easy enough fix.

I appreciate the feedback gentlemen - I really do.  I am about 90% done with the course and it would be a bummer to not finish it.

Sooooo, I think I must of tried reloaded the custom library after the crash last night.  I don't actually remember, but after checking tonight, the library name was the name I was working with last night before the error (not "unknown").    In my project folder it does show an "unknown" under the Perfect Parallel Library, so I am thinking that maybe it did create one after the error but maybe I didn't know to look for it and didn't know to try your workaround.

Anyway, I will remake my custom layers again (sigh) and if/when it crash I will see if I can follow your steps.

EDIT:

I had another error/crash and I didn't get the "unknown" option.  I did try to load my custom library, but it was back to the default textures and all my edits were gone again.

Question... when I do a "save as" to the default to make my custom library, should by new library have all the same textures in it as the default?  Because mine is missing two:

You could still try my suggestion and see what happens. The key is loading the .cfl from the location on your hard drive in your current project.

But, if you've already moved on, it's worth a shot in the future...

Haha, looks like you edited your post while I was also posting...

You can just copy those files and drag them into your ironwood3 folder

Usually your first "Save as" will mirror your custom folder. See what's in the custom and if those files are absent as well. It may just be the way it is...
