I haven't posted much lately but I only recently got back on the horse. With news of Pete Dye's health declining, I felt the time was right to work on this one, which has always been kind of his pet project.

I'm finding this a challenge so far as there are bulkheads all over the place, which have never been a particularly strong suit of mine.

Looking very good Matt. That reflective water patch sure helps the pics come to life too.

Good luck with the project.

A 7 on the Doak scale...but he's a hard marker.  Looking forward to it.

Thanks, gents.

Here's another screenie. This is an example of another style of bulkhead that Dye seems to have become fond of in later years. I'm not really sure of the best technique to use here; I actually went through the trouble of placing every single one of these wooden planks individually, which took FOREVER but seems to have been the best way to do it. I'd love to hear of any alternative methods if they know of one.

A Doak 7 is like a 9.5 for everyone else, lol. He's quite the intimidating fellow. Pretty much all of his posts on GCA are long arguments with other people... that he almost always wins. Of course he does pretty amazing work.

I'm becoming afraid to post there.... say the wrong thing and they'll eat you alive.

Looks great Matt.

There are several Unity prefab brush assets out there that can lay down meshes at defined intervals like this while conforming to the terrain.   I use Easy Scatter and something like this would be pretty easy once you learn how to set it up correctly.

DPRoberts mentioned another prefab brush in a different thread as well.

I also think some of the guys using external 3D programs can build these and import them but I don't know anything about that.

PM me if you want and I can try to explain how to do this with Easy Scatter

Very nice work with the bulkheads. I love the Pete Dye love.

If you want a great read, pick up Bury Me in a Pot Bunker. You'll read it in a weekend and love it!

I almost had the chance to play crooked stick with Pete Dye 4-5 years ago. I spoke to him and Alice on the phone briefly, which was one of my all time golf highlights. Looking forward to playing this one Matt.

I went to some effort to find his book but it was worth it.  "He's been around" as the saying goes.
