Ok, I'm getting real frustrated with this issue. Three times I've been at the start of building my home town course from Lidar data. Every once in a while I'll press a key and I will be zoomed somewhere in the sky with my course no where in sight. 

 

1. What am I doing that causes this and how can I implement a fail safe way from it happeining again.

2. How do I get back to the course that I was jettesoned from? I saved the scene but had not yet backed up the project.

 

 

 I have a ton more respect for all of you pros. I may give up and just play the game. : )

In your Hierarchy window click on your terrain then move the mouse to your Scene window and press 'F' twice...should bring the terrain back into the scene view

For me, that zoom out happens on accidental clicking of the middle mouse while holding the right mouse button.

Rob's trick will bring you back.

Or just double click any object in your Hierachy window and you'll be there right away.

This is also a good way to reset your camera if it gets borked.
