I create lidar based terrains for many of the designers. I try to create the terrains with a 100-150 meter border around the perimiter of the actual course. Some I have created for 9-hole courses are as small as 1000x1000. There is no problem with using smaller terrain sizes at all.

I thought I had answer but thanks for confirming my original modified post.
sounds like the smaller the terrain, the finer the elevations...correct?
when using a smaller terrain with smaller boxes/mesh, is the detail of the textures created in the spline, course forge fairways etc) smaller?
hey, since i got you here, can you use course forge on multiple terrains in one scene? ie hole 1 on one terrain and hole 2 on a second/
thanks

So I added an additional terrain in my scene for the periphery.
Is there a way that I can export it out (Im assuming via raw file), rotate it 90 degrees, and import it back in and add it as a third terrain to my scene? plus when i plant trees on it I dont want the trees reproduced on the original terrain it was derived from.
thanks
Rob
Actually, I found that importing the terrain.asset into unity a second time adds the second terrain which can be planted separartely from the other similar terrains
