(This issue got resolved. See my post below).

Playing PG, made me nostalgic for the old days of playing the Golden Bear Challenge (GBC) game, however, I'm having problems registering over at the Golden Bear's Den website. I want to download the patch for Golden Bear Challenge (GBC) for the game to work on my current system, as well as some courses, but whenever I try registering, all I get back is an automatic email stating that the Admin must approve before I can begin using the website. It's been over 2 weeks, and I haven't gotten any other emails. I checked my spam folder besides the Inbox, but nothing.

I sent an email to the webmaster (Dave Smith) using the email address provided on the website regarding this problem but again, haven't gotten any emails.

Does anyone know if this website is still active? (it seems like it is) or is there any other way to try to get both the patch and some GBC courses from another website?

Thanks for any info.

Wish I had any answers for you (I don't)

That said - I had to chime in and mention how much I loved GBC...

It was such an awesome game for its time.

I just went and checked and my username and account has been deleted it looks like.

I have kept up-to-date as recently as 2017.

Odd.

I wonder if “it’s over”?

*UPDATE*

Just received an email from the GBC's Den, and now everything works. He had to create a new username for me. I guess he was on vacation. WOW, there's over 1,200 fantasy courses alone!! Downloaded the Win7 patch and now the game works like it was still 1999 :) Time to start d/l and seeking my over 10+ cd's of courses I had downloaded back in 1999/2000.

Can you get any anti-aliasing applied to GBC through NVIDIA control panel or the like?

Just some basic AA would do wonders for it actually..

GBC was a lot of fun. And the community was, too. That's kind of where it all started for me.

Golden Bear Challenge was an instant succes and was very well received. I still have some glowing reviews here. ^_^  It incorporated a huge amount of options, course designer and great playability with a big following and a long courses list. Great designers like Brian Silvernail had the same reputation in this game as Mike Jones would have in Links later on. The roaming camera was one of those really outstanding features. Even the Ani's could be custom made with faces overlay. In fact, this game was just so complete, it looked to be the end game to me.  -_-  Until I bought Links with the RTS swing. That was the next step. And then came JNPG ...

Brian Silvernail designs for this game now but has yet to put anything official out yet but I do know he is working on Black Diamond Ranch because he lives close by I think or has been there quite a few times.

Even though I started in Links 1997 (Officially all the way back to Leaderboard Golf though in 1984 and forward with my dad) I didn't stay long and left as soon as I because a beta tester for Jack Nicklaus 4, I remember quite a few of you from the Course Depot forum. My favorite from those games is/was the commentary from Jim Nance and Gary McCord.

I wish there was a custom sound file editor for this game like Links because I think I still have all the commentary from GBC.

DanO and Hogmeister were the ones I played with a lot back in those days though, now it's Silvernail and a few others from way back then every Friday night playing points team matches in JNPG. It's great fun!!

Good evening,

I used to be a member of the Golden Bears Den 10 years ago, and last week I registered to be a member (my old credentials did not work).

I have not heard anything back from the administrator, so I was wondering if anyone know how long it typically takes for a username registration to be approved?

I had downloaded many courses (Augusta, Pebble Beach; all the major ones), but have lost them all :(  Does any one know of an alternative to get the courses?

Thank you,

-Keith
