Hi

Trying to get a sense of what percentage of people here are playing the game in 4k.

If you are, please reply with what CPU/GPU combo you are using and any comments/results/thoughts you'd care to share about the game and how it all runs in 4k, etc

I normally play at 1080p on my Plasma TV, but I'm doing some hardware re-jiggering and currently have my gaming PC in the office at my 32" 4K LG screen and have been trying PG in here.  I'm not super thrilled with how it's performing, but I only have a GTX 1070 in this machine.

Chambers bay sure is gorgeous in 4k, but the fps is a bit low for me (at least with what I'm used to at 1080p).

I am playing in QHD after upgrading my monitor and to an RTX card. Even though it`s not 4k, I must say the gain in sharpness and overall eye candy is phenomenal, even rather poor looking user made courses shine in new light that way. From 1080p to QHD is already a huge improvement and if you really want to fully commit to 4k, I `d definitely recommend an rtx card, those are the best performing for UHD gameplay.

Only course I cannot play in 4k with 30 or more frames is Milleridge because of it's high detail second mesh. It's only one course so i'm fine with not playing it. I do not 3-click and play horizontal RTSM so I need all the frames I can get, I refuse to drop down to 1080p to play one course.

I have no problem playing 4k gaming in this game or any other game out there that I have including Battlefield 5. My system is at least 6 years old (built Feb 2013) as well except the monitor and GTX 1070 card and an extra SSD.

Having a much larger monitor is most helpful at age 53, everything is larger and more crisp so it makes it easy to see better.

Buck, I get 80 fps on chambers bay in 4k with my 1070 card so the rest of that work system must be pretty bad.

This right here^

I will be 53 this year and I eyesight is an issue.  That said, I have enough horsepower to run at 4K, but I chose a 32 inch single 2K monitor (see sig) due to eyesight.  I can not resolve pixels smaller than this, so to get the same pixel ration on a 4K monitor is not to my liking. I end up with a bigger monitor than I want.   So, I run at 2k for eyes and I get the benefit of great frames in PG.

IMHO, 17 to 32 inch screens at 1920x1080 allow for far better FPS and for this game due to less demand on video cards. Even 1080 Ti struggle on many courses. In terms of JNPG, I think most players will stick with 1080 screens for much lower prices and for better FPS.

Paying $400.00 for a 27" 4K screen versus $230.00 for a 27" 2K screen means the extra money can go towards a better CPU or GPU.

As the old adage says, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder."  ;)

Not really a bad system at all.

For me It’s not a raw, standing in one spot, frames per second situation it’s more of a consistency of it especially as the ball flies through the air. I’m just really sensitive to stuttering of any kind… I might play with it some more this weekend.

Honestly I haven’t had to tweak my settings in like two years and I’m not really in the mood to start doing it again as I’d rather play the game versus play around with the game and the settings

I definitely appreciate the responses so far.

This is mostly academic for me because I am not planning on moving away from playing at the couch in 1080p on the plasma anyways.
It’s just too comfortable and the environment I’m looking for when laying PG (relaxing).

I have the system to run at 4K, but play on a 3440x1440 ultrawide. I get 120 FPS on just about every course I play. O bet 4K would be nice

Been running PG at 4K for a couple years now first on my old setup, i7-6700k /GTX1080ti and now on my current rig i7-8700k/RTX2080Ti. Was on a 2016 Vizio 40" 4K TV, got a deal a few weeks ago on two 32" 4K HDR monitors.

BEAST setup there Sam!

You finding the 1080ti to 2080ti worth the nearly doubling in cost?

I have a 8700 + 1080ti right now - mainly curious - not really in the market as this is a dual boot hackintosh and I need to stay on 1000 series cards for that right now.

Well the 2080Ti Hybrid was $1400 but sold my 2 yr old 1080ti Hybrid for $600 so it wasn't too bad. I only went for the 2080ti as I had a buyer for the 1080ti (a friend at work) waiting to get it.

performance-wise I get 20-40 FPS more in PG, depending on the course being played. About the same performance boost in most games. I find in Linux that even though it looks just as good the card doesn't seem to be as taxed as under Windows. Under Windows both the CPU and GPU liquid coolers throw off more heat when playing games but don't under either distro of Linux.
