Fooling around with golf sims for over thirty years now, I have noticed a curious trend. It seems that all you guys from the U.K. and from the Land down Under seem far more enthusiastic about video golf than we are here States side. This is evident in all the forums past and present. There is more enthusiasm and participation shown by the Europeans and Australians and Iam pretty sure that the lions share of course designs come from those two areas as well.

I'd say your perception of the interest level is spot on...  And I'll hazard a guess as to why...  Here in the USA, those who are interested in golf are out playing real-life rounds and/or practicing and don't have the time for computer golf...   AND that those who don't play golf tend to have absolutely ZERO interest in the game at ALL and often make fun of those that do play, or watch, or play on the 'puter.

I think this also expains why TV ratings for golf tend to be quite a bit higher in countries other than the USA, whether it's the American tour or any other.

I'm unusual in that respect...  I live in the US (California) and don't play real-life golf, but DO like computer golf.

Went to Digital Storm and ordered me up a nice gaming machine :)

Intel i3 chip at 3.9G

16 gig DDR4 RAM

GeForce 970 GTX 4gig vid card

240G SSD

1TB HD

Windows 10

It's HERE!!  JNPG runs great with all the bells and whistles at max or close to it...  I still turn 3D render off for the swing, tho.

I think it's much simpler than that. We in the UK have bad weather 350 days a year, making real golf impractical, the Aussies have 30 + degrees of heat 347 days a year, making golf impossible as their beer gets warm. :P

Looking at the PGLS leaderboards it appears the stateside players hold the majority, then its a mix with ENG, CAN and SCOT. I don't get the impression that the OP gets, quite the opposite.

I have played against Americans mostly in  multiplayer, followed by UK and Aussies. So you haven`t played it for too long or extensively I guess?

I do not play online, so the majority people of people you play against could well be Americans. The point I was making was the general participation in the such forums as Links Corner, Course Downloads, and even here at PP. I always felt more custom courses released, originated in the UK and Australia. A lot  of the comments, tutorials and general help and advice seemed to have its origins from across the ocean. When I inventory all the custom courses that were worth keeping for Links, TW, and PG, close to 2000 this is what I found. Seventy five percent of them were not by American designers.
