Wondering these things.

1. Who decides what "medium greens" are? Playing as Amateur and medium greens while learning. Come across many many courses set at medium greens, yet the flagstick is 10-12 feet past a deep bunker, AND on a slope. That is very difficult, not medium in my opinion.

2. How does one read the break on a green pre-shot? I used the BLI which has a little itty bitty tiny white line showing the break line, but when I get to the green, the break is 5-12 FEET. Help?

Thank you.

Seems you are speaking of Medium Pins which

are set by the designers at, Easy, Medium, or Difficult.

The Player chooses the speed of the greens, Hard,Fast, Slow,Soft etc.

There can be many medium pins on a hole and unless you play

on a tournament site the game decides which medium pin you get

for a particular round. Tourney sites can control which medium

pins are used. Some designers are careful to choose where these

Easy, Medium, and Difficult pins are placed, some are not, but it's

still debatable what is Easy, Medium, or Difficult, and there is

much discussion about this on these forums.

I understand, thank you. One more question. In the game settings I can toggle the grid to be on "green only".  On the first green it comes on, however, it's still on for the tee box on the next hole, and the fairways, unless I shut it off. I'm guessing its really not "green only", or is there something I'm missing?

Don't see a need to debate pin positions, i would imagine like myself most designers would place easy pins pretty much central on a green, this allows the player to attack from left, right front ( roll up )

Medium pins as far as my courses go may have increased risk of attacking from one side or another, i tend to put them away from the centre of the green and try to bring a bunker or hazard into the equation.

Difficult pins i would place in areas with less room to work ( tucked ) along with bunkers and hazards coming into play.

Only then do i look at slope, but i do not make it a rule to put easy pins on flat and diff pins on slopes because pin positions are primarily for approach play, putting is a whole different skill set.

My rule of thumb is I will never place a pin on a slope where the BLI is more than 2, though on a real course with noticeably severe greens it may not always be possible.

I admit to medium pins probably being the ones I think least about in some cases, if only because I want to make sure I get the easy and the difficult ones right, and then the mediums kind of become the afterthought.

I'd appreciate if someone has an answer for this question, posted above.

I think the grid settings are inconsistent at best (I have never used the grid, so I'm going on recollection from other posts).  I've heard the same about the overhead map not always staying on.

Personally, I use m on the keyboard to turn the map on and off rather than the button in the menu (and I don't leave it on).  Similarly, I think you can use the g key to turn the grid on and off, where desired.  I'm not sure if the settings may be affected by  the "pause render on swing" setting.

:dunno:
