I screwed up on a hole with messing around on the terrain heights. I need to return just certain areas to the original lidar heights.
I see an icon in course forge that should allow me to do this, but cant get it to work.
Any insights?

Which icon do you mean? Never recognized an option to revert parts of the terrain to its default state. But a function like this really could be useful to retouch parts of one or another hole of my early days too.

No easy solution here if you didn't export or save your terrain before changes.

I use the cog wheel menu under the terrain options in the hierarchy to save the terrain Raw file with the Export heightmap button. I would do this daily and prior to any major plans to alter the heightmap.

Now, what you could do is export your current heightmap and bring into a graphical editing program and overlay your original lidar and use a mask layer to paint in the original lidar.

I can post a video on that if you need direction.

Good advice. I only backed up my CF terrain frequently and for sure have countless different course files. I guess this isn't enough if I really needed to revert a part of the heightmap.

I just make a Terrain Backup folder in my project panel and my last step in the day is to export the heightmap to this folder and name "coursename_date".

You can also use the option in the menu for Terrain Backup. I started with CF beta and never used that feature. That will actually save plantings as well I believe so it might be better if your project implodes. I just don't think you can separate the RAW out of the .asset file that creates.

Yes, i only used the backup option in the CF menu. Will put the raw heightmap backup on my daily-to-do-essentials-list...

If you don’t mind losing ALL your terrain changes. load up the Lidar package in a new project and export the raw heightmap then import into your current one.

If you have a package from Justiin or me, they include the .raw file. To restore the original, just import the raw file. The only thing you need to know is the original height used in the package. If the package includes a README file, the info should be included in that file.

I still have the original terrain raw from JTs package. But there is nothing completely screwed up. If I'll absolutely feel the need to get parts back to its default state I probably would try it with the masking way in gimp.
