Hi all,

i just wanted to share with everybody the possibility to play 3-some matches (like when you are a player short for a 4-some for example). Sometimes it's a little bit tricky to get 4 players aligned for a team match. I just got a terrific tip from Shimonko on this: just set up an Alternate shot game (match or stroke play) in JNPG and put in the four players, but instead of putting four different players put your player (or any other player) in twice. That way you have 2 players on the opposing team and 1 player (double) on the other team. Don't forget the color coding of the players and presto!, you have yourself a 3-some match!

Hope this little trick adds to the fun. (Thanks Shimonko!) :)

But you still have to play twice if you are the only player in that team I guess? Or you mean you only have to play once if you set yourself(s) to the same colour?

You and Yourself is a Team so you do play twice. I have known about this for ages since a group of 6 of us play every friday night on 3 point teams and/or skins so we always are playing teams and if one person doesn't make it that night (which is rare) one of us just double up playing as our own teammate so we can still play teams.

I've made a couple of BOP's , one is a 3 V 2 match play, but as it's based on better ball, it can take longer than a real game. The second one is a 6 man , ie 3 pairs, alt shot, either stroke or Stableford. When we have 3, I personally like the 3 man points BOP.

It plays just like a regular 3-some. So 1 vs 2. Using a 'double' for your side means you play every shot for your side. You see two players in the game for yourself but effectively its only you. 3-somes are effectively 2-ball matches. The other side plays in alternate form. This format allows for speedy play with three players (especially in matchplay). -_-  Playing with 3 friends you can switch the 'lone eagle' player after every match if you want. So one could play best of three matches for example, alternating the 'lone eagle' player. The player setting it up is the one who plays alone. Generally, the 'lone eagle' player should be the strongest player (hcp wise). There is a little caveat in this format in the sense (depending on the state of mind) that playing alone can be seen as a psychological advantage to the teamplayers, but that's just personal.. ;)

So choose 'alt shot stroke play'  or 'alt shot team m.p.' depending on the format.

Yes, Charles was referring to alternate play - where a single player alternating with himself is just like him playing a stroke event by himself.
