I currently have an error message:  Terrain Data is missing splat texture 24. When I try to use a texture now it closes the Unity program. Anyone encounter this problem? I'm new at this and have no idea. Thanks.

Maybe try Unity Answers..I found this...the second response may help.

The first texture in the paint pallet is usually the terrain texture.

How many textures are you using?

If you are talking about your terrain painting textures, honestly, I think you should not really use more than 12. I can't recall the exact upper limit but the splatmaps are created in a bundle of 4 textures. So there are 3 splatmaps for 12 textures.

Delete excess textures and you should be ok. Yes, you will lose that work with those textures.

You can try to delete back to 20, 16, or 12

I thought I saw it said that you could go past 12 if they were in blocks of 4 ?

Dr Rob pushed this when he did the Glen. I can't remember for sure but I think he kept crashing his project at 24. The less, the better. If you crash, drop back by 4 until you are stable.

I've had some really weird stuff happen when I went past 12.  Funny thing was that one time it didn't happen right away, but it eventually did happen.  My current build plan includes finding 12 textures before I leave hole 2 and never changing after that.

I don't like being limited to 12 though...  Course Forge 2?!?!?!?
