I searched but I didn't see an answer to a question I have.

Given the terrain details below and the fact that I am on hole 2 of the course... what happens if I edit "detail resolution per patch?"  Maybe change it from 8 to 16.

There is a warning in unity "that modifying resolution will clear the heightmap, detail map OR splatmap."

I am not sure what that is telling me?  But it doesn't sound good haha

Thanks

Jspirate,

Read page 3 here from the ShimonTool thread. Post #50

http://www.perfectpa...montools/page-3

It explains resizing the detail maps. If you decide you want to change something, use the ShimonTool to do it and you shouldn't mess up any of your terrain work at this point. (download for the ShimonTools is on the 1st page of that thread)

Otherwise, you may lose your plantings, your painting, and your heightmap on the terrain. As always, make a backup of your project before trying it though.

Yes, it erases everything that is painted and everything that is planted, across the entire plot. It won't affect any splines.

I have done it with some of my oldest courses (before I knew what I was doing in some cases) when I was turning them into Unity only courses (which was for a phone app that is supposed to be coming out soon). These were all copies of the original files though and done with the purpose of having to format and replant them all anyway, so the extra work was going to be needed as the entire thing needed to be much lower res.

Understood and thank you both for the clear and knowledgeable responses!

One more question... should I go to 16 or 32?

Go for 32. Also 64 works. Less draw calls.
