Playing Carnoustie in a PGLS tournament and it started to get choppy to the point of being unplayable. Checked CPU useage and it's as shown above with GPU useage at 48%.  Both are flagged as very high in red in task manager. Anyone else had this issue ?

I think this game benefits more from a good CPU rather than a good GPU, other games are like it too, Arma 3 being one i know of.   It's a shame as most people invest in a graphics card because most games benefit more from a better GPU.

I think one reason that makes some games more CPU dependent is they are built off the DX9 API. Which makes them compatible with older GPU's but lack the newer rendering technologies that can off load some of the calculaions to it.

I raised it as I wasn't used to seeing it.

Playing IN 4K and just got in fairway of hole 4 at Carnoustie 2020 with 3D grass. My CPU usage is 28 percent and GPU is at 71. I think you need a better computer, mine is 7 years old besides a GPU upgrade a few years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I run Arch Linux (5.6.7 kernel) 95% of the time  (I will boot into Win 10 later and compare) but on hole 6 Carnoustie 20203DG running in 4K I get CPU 13%, GPU 53% with 4.5Gb of the 11Gb video memory used, FPS is 117.

My first thought would be if the CPU % was that high there had to be some things running in the background.

I agree with Sam, the OP's system should run this game with ease, even with back ground apps running. Problem would be a poorly written app running on the same thread as the game instead of it's own. I'm sure there is a remedy, but I have never dug into CPU thread management.

This is the most frustrating game I play. My setup should run this game easily. I’ve tried everything to get this game to run at least what my hardware should do. I play on a UltraWide monitor (3440X1440) and it’s a mixed bag every round. The frame drops appear every other hole, shot, or even mid flight. I’ve set the resolution lower, lowered the settings, messed with Nvidia Control Panel settings, Gsync, Vsync, etc.

Someone here suggested on another thread I posted I should turn off dynamic sky setting, which helped on some courses, but not others. I’m not sure if it’s being bottlenecked on my pc or not. I’ve done memory dumps, power settings, etc. I play other games on ultra setting with no issues. It just doesn’t make since.

Are you having game play issues, or is it just lower FPS than you expect?

You're not alone in thinking a game such as this shouldn't have any issues with performance. So much I'm tired of trying to convince them other wise. But fact is depending on what is within the render radius it can take quite a hit on FPS even with the best of rigs. Hard to explain whats having to be calculated and rendered with this type of environment that makes it more demanding than most other games.

I get steady frame rates at 120 FPS, it’s just the massive frame dips. One minute it’s 120 FPS and mid flight it will drop to 70 FPS. This happens constantly. There’s only a few courses that’s smooth all 18 holes. I keep the frames capped also with Vsync every frame in the settings.

I just wish I could keep a smooth gameplay experience.

There are a few things to take into consideration, we will take them one at a time!

Do you have any unnessary services running in the background?

Thanks for helping. That's a question for a techie if ever I heard one. I have 80 background tasks running but which are necessary would be  beyond me. Just let me say I played Willow Heath last night and CPU and GPU loads were way down I played Nascar Heat 4 today and CPU and GPU loads were down. However, power usage always has the red "Very high" label.

I opened PG whilst typing this and CPU is at 21% and GPU is at 40% with power usage at very high. Last night I changed the power plan from high performance to balanced.

Like Clubcaptain, I probably have many process running. I have disabled what I would consider unnecessary. My issue is, I play way more demanding games than this one with no issues.

In the bottom left corner of windows type in this msconfig and hit enter.

Then click the tab that says services and then check the box that says

hide microsoft services. Give me a list of what shows.

Do you work with Adobe and EaseUS very much?

Are you playing PG on your PC and what monitor

are you using with what resolution?
