I also don't believe their focus is on PC. The game didn't have any PC controller and they just implemented it after the PC group in their forums grew. I don't believe that the PC version will be cut but the updates will be way less once the console versions are out. I will wait for PG as I think that Mike and Andrew have the experience of PC golfing other than HB devs do.

I still say that the way HB is building this game reminds me too much to TWO. Even if it is a complete different game, but the missing features are almost the same as at TWO:

No multiplayer, no drop zone....

From reading the forums there, they have a lot of work to do on this game, what gets me is why in 2014 a Developer like HB can make such a mess of a game. It`s got nothing like the game play of TW 06 ? then theres the EASO makes you wonder how good it was when the 08 version was running , any sort of game play you wanted, form a Club in seconds, for those of you that have the game , i will try it btw.  Personally i think they have caught a Tiger by the Tail on this one , some guy made 6 courses in one day ! i Hope PP does not go down their road . heres the Steam overlay fix some one posted on their forums.

Turning off Steam Overlay makes the whole UI much more responsive.

Framerate is still low (30 fps at 1920x1200, high settings on an Nvidia 660ti).  But the game is now playable for me, where before it was a mess.

To turn off the overlay, right click on the game in steam, select PROPERTIES and uncheck the box for "Enable the Steam Overlay while in game"

As has been said previously about Steam you cannot play a game like The Golf Club without being online , this is Stupid, surley if you just want to Practise why go online.

Game is good and fun.  Spent about 4 hours playing deep last night.  Exploring user created courses is fun and some are really great, close to 2000 made so far with sort options to pick through most played or highest rated.  Ton of bugs but Ive seen an update a day so far and seem to be ironing out some of the quick ones with tougher fixes probably coming later.

And yes you do need dedicated graphics to run this, and fairly powerful dedicated graphics.  Geforce 460 or higher or Radeon 6770 or higher.  Game runs smooth on mine and wouldnt be fun unless it did.  TGC is gonna kill themselves financially unless they optimize the graphics better, as they are making a game for only 20% of PC golfers than can manage system requirements.

Agree 100% - VERY fun game.  No performance issues here at all as my ATI 7950 handles it very easily.  This game just looks great and for a very early beta is VERY promising.

Couldn't get right-click to work anywhere "in" the game, or on the Steam main page.

Warren,

In Steam go to your library of installed games and then right-click on The Golf Club in that list.

A pop-up menu should appear with several options. Choose Properties from the bottom of the list. A further pop-up appears and in the 'General' tab you should see a tick against 'Enable the Steam overlay while in-game'. Click on the tick to remove it and then press close. Job done.

;)

As a golf simulation I find The Golf Club very poor.  I am a long standing Links fan and I think the gameplay in Links at 13 years old is superior to this.  All I'm seeing in this that I don't get in Links is  a ripple on the water which doesn't affect the way the ball rolls one iota.  I also find that it is very greedy of my limited resources.  I can't afford a 'bell ringing' gaming machine so I need to live with what I've got and as things stand Links still gives me a better 'golf' experience than The Golf Club and if this is indicative of what is to come from Perfect Parallel, I don't think it will be worth my investing my few pennies to find my game stuttering and the menus taking forever to run through.  I'm feeling very disappointed but I'm not really surprised although it is sad that a significant percentage of a diminishing playing group will be dropped because of their inability to match the system demands of the new games.

I don't disagree. I think Links is still probably the better game. That being said, the game is still only at v.51 and there's a lot of room for growth. I don't know how good the final product will end up.

The performance has gotten significantly better in the last month. It still stutters on medium, but not nearly as bad. High remains unplayable. The trees looks too "similar" and a hole with a large number of objects or water will bog it down. Still, there's progress here. At least I can reasonably play a round. But the trees often look bad - shaded incorrectly - and the system requirements remain obscenely high for a golf game.

The controller swing is still pretty decent, if a bit easy for full shots. I'm finding it ok. Half shots remain impossible - you simply can't take a half-backswing. This really causes problems around the green, where a 30-40 yard pitch creates major problems and a short bunker shot is almost destined to fly over the green. Putting is ok, though the last patch makes putting on a steep hill impossible. You simply can't putt the ball hard enough to get up the hill.

There remains other challenges beyond the half-swing. On medium or low, you can't see the putting grid on the entire green. This makes putts over 20 feet or so just a guessing game. Hitting in/out of the rough is wonky (but then again that's like real life - I just wish I could identify a flier lie). They instituted drops for hitting in the water in v.50, but they don't always work. You still end up stroke & distance on some occasions and you can't pick the drop. The wind seems to be overly powerful - a 5MPH wind will knock down my wedge by 7-8 yards. These are all things that would be tweaked close to release, so I'm not sweating it beyond the green grid.

Probably the biggest challenge right now is the lack of good courses. *Very* few decent courses have been released and it's exceptionally difficult to find the good ones. The rating system doesn't seem to work well enough and there's a ton of pure trash. You can't rate a course until you complete it, but you'll get a lousy course and you won't want to waste the time trying to get through it so bad courses often have good ratings because those who don't like it never get the chance to give it a score.

All in all, it's a work in progress.

And just true-swing it looks like...that's a killer for me.

To me it feels like the game is a reverse engineered console game ported to PC.

I'm pretty sure that's not the case, but sometimes it feels like that since it basically calls for a controller to be fairly playable, hence the "Oops, some PC users want to play the game with keyboard and mouse. Oh crap." kinda true swing thingamajig.

I still hope they get the swing problems and performance issues sorted and all of the other bits and pieces put in there though.

All I know is that I paid my money for the beta of The Golf Club; if I don't feel significantly confident that PP's golf game will be significantly different, as someone with a mid to lower range PC (albeit new) it won't be worth my investing further.  We've just had 2 new courses on Links and they leave anything offered here well stuffed.

I'm pretty sure PG will be quite a bit better than TGC from what I've seen so far, atleast when it comes to the course creator for each game, CF feels like it's light years ahead of TGC's course builder.

My computer is a couple of years old as well, so I'm not sure it'll be able to handle TGC or PG, but I'm hoping for the best.
