Thanks to Ted's thread I got into trying the RTS, but I'm really having problems with the power.

I use a trackball mouse, so it's really hard to find a reference for how much power my swing is using and as such I ALWAYS overswing and use 105%+ power on every club. I'm kinda hoping other people using the same can chime in with some ideas and tips of how to deal with this.

I mean, I've spent hours the last couple nights in the driving range trying to find my swing. And I've got a good rhythm down and a fairly repeatable swing, but I just can't find that 100% point.

Trying to achieve 100% power without going into over swing is without a doubt the most difficult part of RTS. I use RTS-M, but took a shot at using a trackball awhile back.  I gave up in frustration with the trackball as not only could I not control the power, but I found it nearly impossible to move the marble in a straight line.

I've exclusively used a trackball for almost 20 years now, so it's second nature to me. And almost impossible to use a "regular" mouse on any sort of regular basis...the trackball is just so much more intuitive.

But you are right, it's almost impossible to find that sweet spot of 100%. I might just have to club down everywhere and go with that.

Does using trackball feel anything similar to the old Golden Tee Golf?

If I treated my trackball the way people treat Golden Tee, I'd be buying a new one every week.

Been using a trackball for RTS swings in golf games since Sierra's PGA1999. In JNPG the 100% sweet spot is close to the 12 o'clock position in the backswing.

Also as someone who worked in vending/amusement for almost 20 years (video games, jukeboxes, pinball, kiddie rides), when Golden Tee first came out we started having to replace the glass with plexi cause people would just about run up and spin the trackball as hard as they could with their palms and slam into the glass. After we had a few glass crack, we put in plexi. Didn't want someone putting their hand through glass.

I'm going to go slightly off topic for a moment as I have a trackball question and there are some trackball players here:

It appears that using the trackball for RTS may not work that great but how does trackball work for MS? I would think it a good option for those maybe laid up horizontally - trackball would be a good option I would think. I know 3 click would work but how about trackball for swinging?

It works fine for RTS, you just need to mess with the sliders for the sensitivity a little. And like I mentioned it's a little difficult to judge where the 100% mark is. I have it set to 2.50 and 3.50 for the short game (I discovered using the same for the short game gave WAY overpowered shots).

But, it does work well for mouse swing as well. One trick I could give, is make sure to clean the mouse ball (no jokes please) and it really helps with keeping the swing smooth.

I use my Trackman Marble for all my RTS golf games (WGC2011, TGC & JNPG). By making some speed adjustment in the mouse settings for each game, I have been able to find a mouse speed setting I can use in each that lets me use the same finger movement on the ball for each game and not throw me out of wack when going between the games.
