I've got 3 friends coming over for the Super Bowl weekend and the tradition is that we play lots of PC golf before the big game. This goes back to the early '90s when we started with MS Golf and then continued onto Links 386 etc.

The problem I have is that I haven't played PP for about 6 months and have no idea about which courses to download and play. There are so many available at OGT.net and I'm not sure which ones are good (I know there are ratings but not sure they match the style of courses we like). We usually team up and play some of the MOPs. We like courses where water or trees come into play.

I would appreciate it if you could help me pick 5 great courses that fits our criteria. I'm familiar with all the MJ courses (and love them), so no need to mention those  :)

Thanks for helping me, it's much appreciated.

I have not been there in a while, but can't you sort by the rating's stars at OGT?   I suppose you can start with those and Crusher puts out nice videos here on the forums, so maybe check those out and see which ones catch your eye.

RobV, I gave that a go but many of the courses are links style and that's not our favourite type of course. We like courses with lakes and forests - I guess you would categorise it as a Woodland style course. Back in the days at LinksCorner we could sort on 'course style', which made life easier  :)  I appreciate everything we're getting from OGT but think I'll suggest to the site owner that he adds a course style category to it.

Also, I've watched a lot of Crusher's videos and they are good inspirations to a quick course overview.

I'll wait and see if anybody else recommends any  ;)

Hello Superstar,

You will get some recommendations later in the day. Are you looking for fictional courses or real recreations to play? TPC Scottsdale (real) comes to mind and Lands End (fictional) as well as Club Schwarzwald (fictional). There are plenty of others but that is why your looking for guidance. It only has seven stars but it has plenty of trees and water to negotiate so you could try my course out, Mohawk Valley Golf Course. Had to plug my own course while I was suggesting. Try it first though as it is fictional and you either love it or hate it.

Hope you have a great Sunday,

Hello Superstar,

Are you looking for fictional courses or real recreations to play?

Any course StoneComet, fictional or real wouldn't make a difference to us.

Cheers guys, I'll check out the ones you've suggested.

Play the Real courses. If it weren't for OGT tournies, those would be the only one's I'd have.

Many such as myself prefer the fictional courses far more than real ones.  The fictional ones if done properly play much harder than the real ones, which usually entail almost all straight and sometimes too wide fairways.

A couple great courses to play are, Halcyon Springs, Mohawk Valley and Five Sisters.  My personal favourite as the best course in the game by a landslide is Fall Lakes.

A few more if you haven't already downloaded.

Cypress Point

Blackwolf Run

Wells Hollows

Nautilus Bay

But to be honest, there are so many good courses to list.  And we're about to get a wave of great courses very soon.  There are some cool courses being tested now at OGT designer section. :)

I haven't been able to find Fall Lakes on OGT.net - is there somewhere else I should be looking?

Thanks, that's great news. I've given your site access to display notifications - is that how new courses would be announced (apart from on PP forums)?

Got all of the recommended courses downloaded - it's time to play some golf now!

Greetings,

Yes there is another site that does have some courses that do not appear at OGT. Fall Lakes is there. I played it today and I really like the concepts on a lot of holes, however it does push the envelope of "would someone build this in real life". Try it for yourself though as course appreciation is very subjective.

Ahh, thanks for the info StoneComet - I've now bookmarked the site and grabbed the course.

I played Kissing Tree and TPC Deer Run and I found the course stunning and lots of fun to play. Seriously can't wait for the rest of your recommendations.
