...Terrain Forge?

I have looked through the forum for this but could find nothing posted in the past year or so.

Having spent more fruitless hours than I care to admit trying to import LIDAR data into Unity with various free tools (cannot justify paying for tools such as Global Mapper nor Photoshop), I'm beginning to lose the will to live....

The course(s) I want to try and recreate are ones I have played.

Have managed to get a usable heightmap from UK DTM datasets via VTBuilder into Unity but have not been able to work out how to get the same sized terrain image to import as a texture in CF.

There are some excellent tutorials in these forums but, understandably, they mainly deal with US data.

Based on earlier specifications, Terrain Forge may have been the answer!

I’m guessing it’s probably vaporware at this point.

It's still there but on the back burner as PG2 is the focus on development.  In the mean time, ask some of the fellas that have already worked out import of lidar data to get something for you.  They're happy to help.

What course are you looking for in the UK? Maybe I can help.

I have it. I'll admit I've never used it for anything other than converting Links courses, though.

The guys who obtain the LIDAR data for us do such a good job that I guess I haven't really bothered to learn for myself. I probably should at some point.

I'm thinking that this may never appear. Hope I'm wrong but it has been discussed on these forums since 2015 and possibly earlier and still no sign.

The people on the forum who produce the data are great.  I'd rather be able to do it myself - but as I said earlier, I've hit a brick wall. I may ask for one course from the kind folks here to get me started and then have another go with the data and the "free" tools for other courses.  :)

Hi Justin.

I'm looking to start with a course on the South Coast - Seaford Head GC.  It's a municipal course located between Brighton and Eastbourne. It's never going to get in the top 100 UK courses but there are great views along the coast and the tee shot from the top at the 18th is worth the trip down from London.

Coordinates from Google Maps 50.764812 0.113154

The most disappointing thing for me is the low frequency of information (about anything) from the developers. Don't get me wrong. I don't regret buying the game as I play it against friends online regularly and while it is not perfect, it is a lot of fun and has certainly been money well spent. I just wish there were more regular updates.

I realise they have to work on the business that provides their living but how long can it take to write a few lines once a month?

Hilts, Sorry I didn't get back to you on the course yet. I live in northeastern Pennsylvania, and we got hit by a nor'easter on Friday, March 2. Lost power and Internet. I'm still out of power, but with the generator I'm able to get on now that I have Internet back. Now my next problem is they're calling for a another nor'easter tomorrow so whenever I get power restored. I'll try to get that course for you. Providing there's lidar for it.

Justin - that's not a problem You are doing me a favour after all.  :)

Sounds like you've had (and have) some serious weather there. We've had some snow here in the UK - not much around London (didn't stop this part of the country going into panic mode though.... )
