Hi all. I’ve just completed my home course and now want to create a second version for my own amusement making changes that I think would improve the course.
I copied the original version and renamed it but now there are two courses in the same project and when I build the changes it just produces the original course. The changes remain present in the new course btw.
I’m terrified of deleting anything as CF and Unity seem to intertwine in ways I don’t anticipate.
Is there a correct sequence I should follow to do this?

Basic rule: New course equals new project.

Can't be helped. The CF splines are assigned to just one terrain, so, bottom line: It's impossible to have to different courses within the same project. It would be so nice to be able to open a new scene for a new course in the same project, but for reasons beyond my understanding this is not possible. The course save function inside CF is only intended for one golf course with one set of splines on one terrain, so won't be of any help to you: It's a backup functionality to protect your work up to a certain point, not a complete file management utility. If you manage to duplicate your old project (or export it as an unitypackage and open it inside a new project), at least you have all your imported objects, plants and textures already in place.

My suggestion would be:

1. Try to undo all your "second version" actions in your project (or load an older save).

2. Find your Unity project folder with all the assets etc in it, wherever it is on your hard drive.

3. Duplicate that Folder and give it a different name.

4. Open up Unity, load the new project.

5. Now you can change away

You can have both variations of the course in the same project. The key is proper organization in the Project window. You should create a folder structure something like this in the Project window and move your existing terrain and scene files into this folder structure:

HomeCourse_v1                (Folder)
  Terrain Backup                 (Folder)
    homecourse_v1             (Terrain file)
  homecourse_v1_scene    (Scene file)

Create a second folder structure in the Project window:

HomeCourse_V2
  Terrain Backup

1. Now duplicate homecourse_v1 (terrain file) and rename it to homecourse_v2. Drag it and drop it into the HomeCourse_v2->Terrain Backup folder.
2. Load homecourse_v1.scene into the Hierarchy window.
3. Delete the Terrain in the hierarchy window.
4, Drag and drop homecourse_v2 (terrain file) into the hierarchy.
5. Perform a File->Save Scene As.. and save the scene into the HomeCourse_v2 folder as homecourse_v2_scene.

Your second course folder should look like:

HomeCourse_v2               (Folder)
  Terrain Backup                (Folder)
    homecourse_v2             (Terrain file)
  homecourse_v2_scene   (Scene file)

Depending on which scene you have loaded into Unity (as shown in the title bar), your changes will only apply to that course and will have no affect on the other. When you do The CF Terrain Backup, it will save the backups in the Terrain Backup folder, thus keeping your project window nice and clean.

Thanks for the advice. Proper organisation is not my strong suit as I'm terrified to delete or rename anything.

I think this could be an exercise for a later date when I have more experience.

There are a few ways of working on more than one course in the same project as Larry outlines above but it's not recommended as one mistake in your terrain import/export process can corrupt your original course if the original terrain is altered or lost.

Just copy paste the entire project and use a different scene and course name on your new version so PG doesn't get confused.
