Hey Guys,

Here is the beta version of my version of Paiute Snow Mountain outside of Vegas.  Its already had a couple updates from the beta thread on OGT.  Slice and CrazyCorey helped a bunch as they always do.

This should be playable.  Native area colliders are pretty nasty so I will tame those down eventually.  Please let me know your thoughts on the rough.  I think it may still be too dark even though I have lightened it up some.

This is my second course and first using the overlay method.  Big shout out to DPRoberts/Slewin for their tutorial.

UPDATED 8-16-2019

Ok here is likely the final beta.  I am moving on to 3dgrass for this course so if someone finds something while I am adding that, I will fix it.

I have forgotten what I have done since last beta but I did at least the following:
1)Redid lakes
2) Added boulders for lakes
3) added a clubhouse (not the actual one but one that doesn't look to out of place for those that don't know the course)
4) Added challenge tees

Update Beta 2-11-2019

Changelog:
1) Fixed Slice's tears and attempted first smoothing. If anyone sees anything here again, please let me know and I will get more aggressive.
2) Adjust colors, I run at 85% saturation. No idea why, I likely copied the setting somewhere and never changed it
3) Railroad tie bunkers added to a few holes (still need to add them to 17th)
4) Lake fixed on 18th I hope
5) Boulders added on several holes in rough. I believe these are the 150 yard markers, so I will need to add them to several more holes.

To Do:
1) Finish the railroad tie bunkers on 17th
2) Lakes need some additional boulders
3) Fix Colliders on Native areas
4) Cart paths..... might not add them on the fence
5) Clubhouse

This is an interesting course with a fun layout in a cool setting.

There are some small issues though. The course did stop loading at 30% and reloaded from zero after a while. Can't reproduce the issue every time but it happend two times already and I didn't experience this with other courses before.

Then there are the textures. I like the colors and the color intensity (rough could get some further lightening maybe but not necessarily imo) but it seems to me the texture resolution is somewhat low. Everything looks a bit blurred when viewed from up close.

Overall I'm glad you continue with the overlay method as I think it looks very realistic.

I agree 100% with you on the close up texture.  I have been struggling with getting the close up texture to look good without making things too dark.  I am going to make a few more experiments with lightening up the entire overlay (where the colors come from) then darkening the close up texture to see if I can get it to pop more.

I have played Snow Mountain IRL several times and like all three courses out there very much.  You have done an excellent job of simulating the holes and I think it plays very much like I remember it.  It's also a lot of fun to play.  What bothers me is the planting.  There are no Saguaro cactus there or Joshua trees.  Many may not find that objectionable, but I do because it does not represent the actual landscape.  There are wildflowers there, maybe not so many.  There are also Creosote bushes, Palo Verde, Acacia, Mesquite and various other kinds of cactus, maybe even Cholla cacti.  The course would be a real winner for me if the planting was more true to life.  Still your work is very impressive. Congratulations on your simulation of Pete Dye's layout!

See if you can find some representative trees in the speed tree store. There are some trees that look very similar to Joshua trees there. Let me know what that tree is and I will replace it. To me from the pictures, the Joshua tree looked the most similar but if you can find something I can swap with it that’s better, I will do it ina heart beat. I did not try to make the native area “accurate” (meaning tree for tree and bush for bush accuracy) but more tried to get some type of feel there. The main reason is that IRL that area really isn’t even playable. It’s a lateral hazard IRL. I will be making changes to some of the native areas anyway. There are colliders I don’t like and some bushes are too big and others I am. It too happy with.

I currently have the dessert package from speed tree so all of that is available. Any help you can provide will be helpful.

I am working on LA Country Club for the contest but then will get back to this and finish up the lakes and make other changes. If you have some idea for native stuff feel free to PM or post here.

I see that you are quite limited when it comes to desert plants, especially cactus.  The Snake Weed package looks good.  You might be using the yellow flowered bush already, but there are some variations that might work. There is an Acacia tree that might be useful in a few places as well as the Mesquite and Rocky Mountain Juniper.  Can't remember if there was Ocotillo on the reservation or not.  I'm guessing it is the Palm Yucca that looks like a Joshua tree.  Seems like the Yucca there was close to the ground.  Speedtree needs to develop a wider range of desert planting options.

Look forward to your simulation of LA Country Club.  The only way I'll be able to play that is via computer.  Here in LA I'm strictly a City and County course player.
