I in the planning phase of building a bulkhead.  As such, I tested the wall that I want to use to make sure it would look OK and I ran into a problem...

The ball reacts off the wall's collider as it should when flying through the air, but not so much when rolling off the fairway or rough.  As a test, I placed a cube with a concrete collider next to the wall and it works fine (shown in pic below).  The balls rolls over the cube and drops into the water.  but the wall causes the ball to stop rolling and then the game pauses. I can F5 and fly around, but once I hit the F5 to go back to my original view the game freezes and I am forced to exit.  I never get the post shot screen.  Resuming the game lets me hit the shot again.

I have not seen this before?  Has anyone else or do you have any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

Really annoying too.  for a bulk head if you want it look better in game, you can make the terrain close to top, so the ball at least rolls over the wall.

The semi-rough mesh is on-top of the bulk-head.  Its the same for both the cube and the bulkhead (with same collider).

The ball rolls from the semi-rough across the cube and into the water. There is no visible lip from the semi-rough mesh to the cube.

The ball rolls from the semi-rough to the top of the bulk-head and stops.  There is no visible lip from the semi-rough mesh to the bulk-head.

There should be no difference...

Anyway, thanks for responding :)

Try it. We name every object that could be in play, "Spline"  in the Inspector.  Cartpaths, walls, rocks, houses etc etc.

Worth a try. For example, if you don't put Spline in front of your cart paths, the ball will roll under and when you try to stand on it, your feet will be buried.

Keep your fingers crossed that that's the issue.

Peace

I will give it a try!

Definitely name it "Spline wall"   I thought you did because your block worked.

Here is a description of it:

Yes, I can vouch for this - I have experienced the same on past courses.

Well, I renamed (referenced stingray's link) and double-checked the collider and I still have the same problem.  It works great when the ball hits it on the fly - the ball bounces like its concrete.  Rolling is a different story though.  It just hangs up as soon as it hits the stone.

It drives me nuts that the cube works fine (without renaming)!

EDIT:

I thought of a potential work around and I tested it and it works, but maybe there are some drawbacks?  Thoughts?

What I did:

1.  I moved the cube with the collider into a position that is very close to the position of the wall.

2.  I disabled the "mesh render" on the cube, but left the "box collider" checked.

I guess this makes an invisible collider and if I am not careful, I could potentially create be a mess.  Also, it will take a number box colliders to mimic the shape of the wall.  So, it is a bit painful, but it would be a potential workaround.

Anyone have any thoughts, good or bad?

Have you tried changing the blocks to a box collider instead of the mesh collider?  Not sure if it will help though.

It is a box collider.

I edited my post above seeking feedback on a potential workaround.

Thanks for the suggestion!

I've found while experimenting with cartpaths that the ball runs through when hitting a vertical edge but rolled over when I changed the edge to something like 45 degrees

Sorry man, I saw your first post, but I am not sure I understand your point.  In my case the ball stops and the game pauses.  Are you saying that this is the effect of the ball running through the stone(s)?

Interesting.  I guess this is why the ball rolls from the fairway/rough across the cube with concrete spline.  Although this cube is at the same angle as the stones.  Dang Unity!

Going to do some more testing...
