I've been a long-time golf sim player, mostly in the Links386/Links LS arena. I really like this Perfect Golf game and I'm trying to incorporate some of the things we'd do in Links LS into this one. (FYI: I use the 3-click option with the mouse)

My q's:

- LS had an overhead view of the entire hole which you were able to click on to aim your shot. I've been messing with the F-keys but haven't come across anything like that yet. Am I missing something, or is that just not available?

- Is there a way to view above the tee box down the fairway so you can see the entire layout of the hole..i.e. if it is a dogleg, pot bunkers in the fairway, etc.? For instance, a view as if you were standing on a ladder to look down the fairway.

- If I choose the F-key to view to landing area of the club I've selected and then click on a spot in that view, is there a way to see where I've aimed once the view switches back to the ball position? Links LS let you right-click to let you see where you've aimed. If memory serves, in LS you could also click a flag icon to have the hole position snap to your lie. I haven't found anything like that so far.

I'm digging this sim, the swing and ball flight physics seem really good and the courses are really interesting so far. Any help with the above questions would be appreciated.

Welcome to JNPG and the PP forum, Snowy.

The overhead in this game disappears automatically after your swing. Perfect Golf has all the tweaks it's going to get at this stage of it's life. Maybe if a PG2 is released we will have the top view (stay open) option with a view of the ball in-flight.

Virtual golf on a computer is my favorite pass-time as well.

I like all that too in Links 2K3

Q1:  The overhead view or map can be turned on or off from the screen menu.  Click on the 2nd button down from the top in the upper right of the screen:

You cannot aim in this view when playing at Tour Pro level.

Q2:  Pressing F5 enters a roaming camera  that you can move/position to anywhere you'd like on the course.  Use the WASD keys to move it and I think the up/down arrows (or is it with CTRL?) to change the elevation.  When you are satisfied with the camera position, press F5 again, and it will freeze the camera in that position.  You can make your shot while in this camera view, though.  Pressing F5 a third time will return you to the default game camera.  I haven't used the F5 camera in a few years, so I don't recall if you can aim in its view.

Q3:  I think you are referring to the F2 and/or F3 cameras.  I don't use those either, so I don't know what happens if you aim in those cameras and then return to the default camera.  Similarly, I'm not sure if your aim point in the F5 camera (if you can) will reset when you return to the default view.

When in the fairway or rough, hit F2 to bring up the green view... set your aiming marker on the green, return and proceed to hit.

You can use the top view for aiming when you play at Pro, Amateur and Hacker.  Tour Pro will not hold the aim in top view but can be used to see distances and dog-legs.

Green aiming, as RobV has stated, is nice when you are playing Hacker or Amateur.  Pro and Tour Pro will not hold the aim with F2.

Tour Pro is the toughest and many of us have tried it and gone back to Pro. Tour Pro only allows aiming on the forward view of your screen. Similar to Elite in Links 2K3.

To summarize:  You get all aiming types in Hacker and Amateur.  Less in Pro and only forward view* with Tour Pro.

*forward view is the view you see when your golfer is standing at the tee or next to the ball which gives you a view from the ball to the horizon. Also referred to as front-view.
