I'm working with some large splined areas that have parts snipped out, but for some reason they get filled in at the end of the draw.  Is there something in particular I have to look out for with cut outs?  Complicated shapes, too close to another spline, spline area too big?  It's really frustrating to build splines, wait 90 secs for my old PC to draw them only to find the cut out area hasn't been cut out.

All of the same rules apply for a "cut-out" spline.  There is really nothing special about it as it relates to other splines.

Remember the mesh inside is still there, it only becomes transparent.  If it is overlapping another spline or has a sharp kink in it, that could possibly cause the error.

Check all of your points along the spline as well.  Occasionally when I'm quickly double clicking to add another point on a spline a random point will appear somewhere else and overlap an existing point causing the mesh not to build correctly.

Ah, which explains why smoothing the terrain fixed it.
