planting within splines

is it possible to mass plant trees or grass only within a chosen spline or splines? would save me an awful lot of bother. I know i can export splines out for 3d grass, is this method possible for use in planting trees and or grass from unity assets (PP standard trees/grass given with CF)? as in export splines, grass and trees out to 3d software (in my case 3ds max) and then reimport them? is there a way to only plant within splines within unity itself which would be easier. Or am i gonna have to mass plant and then go back and delete grasses/trees outside the splines i want planted in.

I don't know if there is an asset which can do the job and is Unity 5 compatible at the same time.

I did it manually within Blender, means export spline mesh like you said and then use it as a target for particles to grow of. You can define whatever you like as particles, so also trees, grass, rocks, obj fbx.... The options are endless and this for sure can make it a bit time consuming. It may still require a bit of manual hands on. Settings, textures, materials, import here, export there. If you want wind on your objects you could for example later batch replace the particle objects in Unity with a tiny object replacer script to Speedtrees or whatever prefab you like.
