Hi, I would like to install Links 2003 with all the courses and try it on Windows 7 . I tried earlier but it would not run. I got a language dll file error. Is this game free now or do I have to pay for it? Some help installing the correct files would be nice! Thank you :)

Teenz,

Many people are running Links 2003 on Windows 7, including me. It is available for download at the Links Corner website. http://linkscorner.org/

The download version is $6.99. Additional Microsoft courses are available for a nomimal fee (see website). However, there are 100's of courses available free.

The Links 2003 community forum is very friendly and you can find answers to most questions by reading the topics in the Forum or you can ask specific questions and someone is bound to come to your assistance.

I'm using the download version and it runs fine on my Windows 7 x64 bit system. Best to run the install as admin, and set the game to 'run as administrator' too. This avoids any permission problems (Links was released well before permissions were necessary!). There is also a 1.07 patch available on Links Corner. This adds widescreen support, custom skies, hi-res support (nearly all the new courses released use these, and most are free), challenging settings (adds more realistic 'PGA type' green speeds - most people on Links Corner use these), and probably other stuff I can't remember!

Links can have problems with integrated graphics chips, also AA turned on can cause graphics problems on some cards. People with new laptops with dual graphics chips have had problems - also Alienware computers.

Just remember Links is OLD, but most issues can be resolved. There's a tech forum on Links Corner if you have problems.

It maybe old though, but it still looks and plays very nicely! Check out Mike Jones hi-res courses for Links 2003 (Pilgrim Trails is free on Links Corner!!!):

Like Acrilix says, the game is old (11 years old this October I believe).

But, with tweaks that were made with the latest v1.07 patch and the hi-res 1024 x 1024 textures that could be used, there are some great looking courses still available to play and for me the gameplay has stood the test of time, for the most part as you get some exaggerated shot physics off severe side-hill slopes at Champ and Elite levels, but hose aside, it's still a good golf game.

Here's a screenie from Dr. Rob's update to Bethpage Black (with Hi-Res textures)
