Hi all,

I have been poking around in Unity and looking at some YouTube videos on the subject and I have come across a free 3d modeeling package, which can export assets to Unity/CourseForge.

It's called Blender and can be downloaded here: http://www.blender.org/

I've had a little play and it doesn't look too difficult to build some basic stuff (tee makers, posts etc).

Anyway, just thought you might find it useful...

Gary

Thanks Gary, the good part about the 3d import in Unity is that because the import is via a common 3d object file type ie fbx, people will be able to share their objects and transfer them from course to course very easily.

Yep, Blender is very useful and easy to use for people just getting into basic 3D modeling.

I downloaded Blender but never befriended it. It's a bit geeky. My single best 3D softwares for constructing 3D meshes were Carrara 2 and Bryce 5 (would have been great for mountains and cliffs)  - both did not get updated for the Mac OS Lion and were lost to me in the last year.

I bet that there also are a load of free downloadable objects on the web. And I'm looking for a new Mac mesh creator app.

I do love my Mac, she's a sexy beast but some software just isn't available for her.  Luckily I kept my old Windows 7 desktop under the desk for such emergency situations!

I use Lightwave to create my trees bldgs and terrain, if this 3d import will accept these files I'll really be tickled!!

Anything capable of exporting FBX files can be used with unity.
