While waiting for Course Forge, I was wondering if there were some free sources of elevation data that are useful and don't require rocket science. I can't really spend money on World Composer or anything like that, so I'm in need of some alternatives.

I would like to get a real course terrain imported into Unity so I can start working on one.

Try earth explorer and use global mapper to export out to unity.

Globalmapper is big bucks and last time I checked, the free trial doesn't export. Easiest way IMO is TerrainForge and my Unity plugin to create the terrain from TF. Whole process a couple of clicks with no options to confuse. I'm not sure what's happening with TerrainForge but ask Andrew if you get can get access to it.

Matt,

Do you want anything in Minnesota to work on? I can get it to you after work. Only problem is I have no idea what you can do without CF unless you start planting some grasses or trees? But if you did that you have to make sure it will not be in an area that your mesh shape for the hole will lay down otherwise I think I heard it causes problems.

Sounds counter-productive, then.

Do you have anything in Wisconsin, Joe?  ;)

Sorry someone emailed me so I can't help anyone out anymore because they have no idea what a hobby is anymore, you'll all have to find your own stuff on the internet or buy your own files.
