I believe I'd be a suitable candidate for testing the designer, perhaps the later versions. I had an original APCD beta back in late 1999 / early 2000 and I was designing in Jack Nicklaus 5 and 6 prior to that. I also contributed to the kickstarter.
I've expressed frustration at using Unity without a program to go with it.... I think once I had access to the course design tools available that I would finally be able to make some progress within that framework.

How much did you 'contribute' to the Kicksarter? As far as I was aware no-one contributed anything, lol.
Back on topic, Unity is the main driver for designing courses. Course Forge is basically on overlay tool with which you draw out your shapes for tees, fairways, greens, bunkers, rough, water, paths etc. and apply the textures on toy our terrain. All the other elements of the course design process like elevation changing, lighting, planting vegetation, planting buildings etc. is all done with Unity.
So the more your understanding of Unity will benefit you in the long run.
