Hello every one.
Although I am a 'lurker' of all the forums on a fairly regular basis, I do not post my comments or thoughts as a rule.
However, as the time draws near to the release of the P.P. golf software, I thought I would take a few minutes to add a few comments.
When I think back about what A.P.C.D & Links Golf has meant to the community of simulation golf over the years & how it has 'held up' to the ever changing world of computing, it is really quite remarkable, that the guys who created this got so much of it 'right' way back when. Some other golf simulations have come and gone over the years but A.P.C.D. / Links Golf still remains.
The fact that Perfect Parallel is attempting something similar and that several multinational companies have tried and given up on doing so, makes me applaud them and I would like to thank all of the staff at P.P. for attempting this venture and assure them of my continuing support.
To all of you, who like me are waiting with 'bated breath' for the release, might I share a few comments --
Will the P.P. software be 'perfect' for everyone right off the bat ? Probably not.
As in life we have to be able to 'give and take'. So if, for instance, I don't like the way the C.F. software handles the manipulation of the vertices, it doesn't mean that it's wrong or in error, it just means that that's the way the guys with more knowledge than I decided would be best.
Will everyone like the 'Interface' layout; the 'swing meter’; the choice of textures supplied ? Probably not.
But once again as in life it's all about give and take.
Will the P.P. software be able to stand the test of time ? "Aye there's the rub".
The amount of up front effort that has and is being put into this venture would appear to say "yes".
With their limited resources, I would say that overall they have gone about it in such a way as to be as sure as they can, that the "Initial Release" will be a success. With hind sight would they have changed the way they went about it, probably yes in a couple of areas, but that's the problem of not having hind sight before you start.
As a closing comment, I would task all of us to 'take our time' when trying out the software, don't just jump in and criticize the first thing you don't like and post it on a forum. Make a note of it and continue trying out all of the features and then make any posts you feel you need to. I would think the P.P. team will welcome all constructive comments.
John
PS Just for all of the “conspirator theorists” out there, no I am not a P.P. employee & no I haven’t been induced in any way to write these comments. I’m just an old golfer and golf simulation software junky.
