While I have been waiting to get my hands on Course Forge to see what it's like, I have started to compile a list of courses that seem to be worth recreating. It's an ever-growing number and it includes courses many of us may not have heard of. As I feel that PG's weakest link compared to TGC right now is the lack of courses, I have been giving TGC a bit more play. My list will be my contribution to the PG community. Rest assured it's looking like it will have at least several thousand courses worth recreating by the time it is completed. If anyone wants access to the list as is or any part of it, feel free to message me. As of right now there is a clear American bias, but all of Canada is included, and I have such an immense back log that I'm not looking in Europe much yet.

Do I detect an American bias here?

...Only because that's where I started! Just wait until I get to Canada, the UK, and Western Europe. I have all of Canada picked out but haven't sorted through them yet. The 'ultimate goal' is to find every good course in the world, but we know how that will go :P I use it as a fun project to fuel my own design ideas, once CF becomes available to me.

While I have been waiting to get my hands on Course Forge to see that it's like and start creating,

Same here... hope I am lucky enough to join in on the CF beta.   I have a couple of ideas myself, one made up course and one "real" course.

We have a master list in the private forum, including the names of people we know to be working a real course project.

Most of the current PGA Tour courses are near completion in some form due to the PP guys producing them for the Sky TV coverage, as well as lot of upcoming major sites. There aren't a lot of international ones being done at this point, which may seem unfortunate, but a lot of it has to do with a lack of appropriate vegetation available. I have mentioned this in the Australia thread, but it also could apply to the links courses of the UK as well in that the bunker styles are, at least for most of us testers, difficult to reproduce in CF at this point.

I personally wish to contribute something from the Australian sandbelt at some point, but I currently don't have all the techniques or resources available to me that I believe would be needed to do the style justice.

This list is far beyond what any top courses list includes. I am literally "combing the desert" (spaceballs reference) in order to find some of these.

That's fine, but I would try to make sure you include any course on your list that is considered in the top 100. I'm sure you have most of them.

That's a pretty nice list. Since Course Forge seems to be along ways from being released, has anyone tried out the course designer for TGC? I've pretty much talked myself into purchasing that game solely for designing courses. Now I've heard the gameplay stinks but designing courses would be a real treat and fulfill one of my favorite hobbies. I remember at one point seeing some beautiful course pictures from TGC designer on here once, so it looks like you can really make some beautiful courses with it.

Most of the top courses just reveal themselves. I ended up leaving off Oakland Hills because almost all the fairways are exactly 25yds wide and closely guarded by bunkers. But it is still a great course. Check out Canyata GC, it's not the top 100 and is in the middle of nowhere, but it looks pretty remarkable. I do use lists to 'clean up' just to make sure I didn't miss any great ones during the 'combing' process.

TGC's Designer leaves you with very limited shape palates, and the land sculpting tool is less natural compared to Unity. However, they may have improved it a lot since I last fooled around with it.

Screw making courses that are already in existence make a course from scratch that one day ends up in a Country Club somewhere ???

Yes ... No ... Maybe ... ???

Little known fact when King Arthur was trying to make a golf course and he ran into some conflict. King Arthur: There's a peace only to be found on the other side of war. If that war should come I will fight it!    Other important fact. Read the Book of John in the Holy Bible.

I'm sure we'll see both.

Plenty of user created layouts being created in the private Course Forge testing but I also see nothing wrong with folks recreating real life courses.

For me that is one plus of computer golf games, giving me the chance to play courses I will never visit in real life.

Recreating real life courses may:

1. Be a lot less time consuming and

2. Effectively function as good realistic fantasy courses considering that we will never play most of them

But I have a creative streak too that I'm looking to use.
