Just curious to what you guys start off with for your terrain size.   I've checked out a few different sizes, but I want to know what everyone else typically uses.

thanks!

I had 1800m at Willow Heath, then I went down to 1300m for Black Swan, Oasis Lodge and Karen. In general, the smaller your main terrain is, the more vertex point you get per square meter, thus increasing the resolution of your course.

Anything that can house an 18 hole golf course will work, though. For technical reasons ordained by Unity, however, your plot needs to be square, even if you only intend to use a narrow portion of it for a long and narrow course.

So, to give you some very arbitrary values, pick anything between 1200m and 2000m.

Another question if you do not mind. Once I have my terrain size and start to manipulate the surface with curves, contours etc, how can I be sure that my golf hole is scaled to the correct size without looking to big or too small? I am doing everything by hand, just for practice and while doing so, I cant tell if the tee, fairway, green or anything else is properly scaled properly to the terrain. Any insight will be appreciated.

Although I havn't had the pleasure to try CourseForge myself (still hoping Mike will answer my request to join the beta tesing) I guess a good approach is to use real golf courses as gudielines. I would also suggest to have a look at the USGA course rating system manual. Here you can find all information used when measuring/calculating the slope rating for a course (contains a LOT of information but includes interesting info about for example typical  shot lengths for different type of players, expected landing areas, obstacles, hole lengths etc). Some information can also be found in the USGA/EGA hcp system documents.

You can find the USGA course rating system manual at http://www.fsga.org/...l_2012-2015.pdf

In the asset store there is a free ruler that you can import into Unity
