From what I've seen so far, CF uses Unity's standard terrain component, and thus to import heightmaps you'll have to give it a single channel (greyscale) RAW file. Both 8 bit and 16 bit formats supported.

I'd totally expect Vue to able to export at least 8 bit RAW.  I've brought RAW into Unity from WorldMachine (a terrain generator) with no issues. A flipping is often necessary as there's no standard for orientation in RAW files.

and I even found out about this with a completely new-fangled method: I figured I'd try Google and type words like unity3d terrain import vue into the search bar. Fancy that, who knew? There is a thing for people who search for info? How handy.

Bottom line, as shinmonko said: Heightmaps are no problem - 3rd-party terrains are. Also: The CourseForge, according to MJ, needs an Unity terrain as the basis for the golf surfaces and shapes. Even if you imported an fbx from Vue, you couln't forge a golf course out of it.

This made me wonder ... Are there formats that you can't import into CF but they can be imported into the APCD(Course Designer for Links 2k3).

If so ... there will be a work arround by first importing it into APCD and than into CF

Ola,

If you had a format that Unity3D wasn't all that keen on, but was accepted by the APCD, you could set it up in APCD, save and validate to get your .CRZ and then use Terrain Importer to put it in Unity3D.

It's would mean a tad extra work, but could be an option all the same, where non Unity3D friendly formats are concerned (as along as the APCD can accept them).

:D

All that can be exported from APCD to CF is the mesh, and all that APCD will accept is dem files so I can't see how you will be able to use APCD as an intermediary.

I have no idea about Vue files, but if it is possible to extract the mesh from a vue file it will be possible to add Vue files to the terrain importer to convert them to a heightmap.  If there are tools out there to export your favourite terrain program to ascii then you can import ascii into Terrain Importer and create a heightmap for import to Unity
