Go to: Steam, Settings, Account, Manage Steam Guard Account Security, and Turn Steam Guard Off.

Alternatively, go to: Steam, Settings, Account, Beta Participation, and Opt Out.

The reason I stated the second option, is because that's the one I found initially on the Steam forums, regarding the same phone number issue. I can attest that it works fine, without any side effects.

Opting Out of Steam Beta does not interfere with individual games. It is in regards to the Steam Application itself. Apparently, the phone number thing is attached to a Steam Beta version.

So, technically, If a user still wanted to maintain their Steam Guard protection, they could bypass this phone number issue, by Opting Out of the Steam Beta, and instead using fully tested versions of the Steam Application. Again, Early Access games, and Game Betas, should not be effected by this.

I just don't know why no one else has had this problem?  Seems strange...

What's even worse, if you want to contact Steam, you have to create another account... I am always suspicious of sites or ppl who don't want you to have easy access to them...

Sweet Baby Jesus.

Just logged in to Steam and it asked me if I had a phone number for Axe as he's not responding.

Wow, scary stuff.

Latest we read is you turned Steam Guard off. Have you been prompted for your phone number since then?

Hard to give any further advice as we don't know if the issue is still occurring.

My Bad..Yes, its' still occurring. I don't want to try to turn the Beta off, I mean, I'm testing in a Beta and as I read in the steam forums someone else tried that and it didnt work.

It's down right impossible to get a message to anyone from Steam. I don't want to give out my number and I'm sick of this recurring banner...

It's pathetic too as if you go to the next page they say enter your number and steam will send you some "sms" code to your phone and data and rates may apply.. What a joke..

Yeah the dreaded phone number message is back for me, too.

I'm going to try to toggle those options again and see if it works.

But, I think Steam has now updated to the version that asks. Sheesh.

Companies are way too intrusive nowadays.

Steam also asks if my email is still the same, from time to time.

If I haven't changed my email, than it's obviously the same!

So annoying, Steam is. Somehow they cannot grasp that they are on a need-to-know-basis.

OK, so I toggled the Steam Guard back on, entered the code that was emailed; and then, toggled it back off... and the phone message went away again.
