Absolutely beautiful!

Thank you for sharing this. I particularly liked the grungy bits on fairways and  greens, where the designers allowed a bit of dirt, mud and other irregularities to show.

In theory, the PerfectGolf/CourseForge/Unity3D combo can deliver similar results, too. Depends on the amount of time invested and the level of detail/plant models applied. This video shows one of the great advantages of fictional courses over real courses (I did not recognize any of the holes so I suppose they are fictional); with real courses you are hemmed in by reality, they are what they are, a tree there must be a tree over here etc - ficitional courses can go for the gusto and strive to add a surplus of beauty and elegance.

The best looking course renditions I have seen on my PC.

I am not familiar with the capabilities of Unity but if K11 is correct, I can't wait to see what the talented designers from JN6, TW and Links create for the community.   :D

Agree there's nothing in there Unity couldn't handle, more graphics card limitation rendering that quantity of polygons in real time.

It's the depth of field and aerial (color) perspective that makes it so realistic IMO. In the PG pic below, that's notably missing (apart from the skybox faking it), but that lipout video had depth of field. Hopefully it's a configurable graphics option.

I guess the difference is that the Digital Realms images are just 3D renders (as these seems to be what they do per their FB page) and the Perfect Parallel courses will actually be playable.

Like has been stated, it all comes down to how far designers will push Unity and CF regards textures used and amount of planting. Looking at other games that have been created in Unity, the levels of details that can be obtained are often of a very high quality. I guess it depends how much the free Unity 3D version can be pushed or whether to obtain the top quality effects, the Pro version would be required.

Given infinite time, a monkey with Unity could create a golf course a 1000 times more spectacular…  B)

Suspiciously gratuitous self-deprecation, in most cases, is a hidden plea for positive reinforcement. I have great faith in you, Ola, that you will handsomely transcend the boundaries of the "tankeexperiment" of the monkeys and infinite time.

Thanks for the URL.  Too bad Tiger Woods (the person) is not exploding onto the scene at this moment in time.  Golf games would be flourishing in 2014 like they did from 1999 to 2008.  Tiger made golf interesting/fascinating to the world at large. Ah well, timing is everything. ;)

M,

Unity 3D is a cross-platform game engine. Recent games such as Wastelands 2, Blackguards, Forced and Kerbal Space Program were all created using Unity 3D.

Unity 3D will be the environment Perfect Golf runs in, with Course Forge being the course design tool within Unity 3D, that will allow PP and the community to create the courses on which we will play.

Unity 3D comes in either the free version, or the purchasable Unity 3D Pro version.
