I remember my grandson used to use a controller like the xbox, and I been wondering... what can you do with an xbox controller that I can't do with my mouse?

Right now there's a lot more that you can do with the mouse in this game than the thumbstick controllers, at least in terms of menu navigation. There are a good many menu functions that I'd like to be able to select with the controller, but can't because the interface isn't fully programmed to allow you to highlight all the fields needed.
All that aside, a team of oxen couldn't pull my controller out of my hands when it comes to the act of simply swinging the club with it. I love the tactile, progressive resistance of the thumbstick as I move it off center. It gives an added dimension to the overall feel of the modeling of the golf swing that I haven't been able to do without since I first experienced it in Links 2004 on the original XBox. Perfect Golf's Real Time Controller Swing is the most dynamic, open-ended, and multi-faceted controller swing interface I've ever experienced, although I'd still say it needs tuning, especially where the left thumbstick performance is concernted.
The Real Time Mouse Swing has a lot going for it in this game. It brings elements into it that aren't possible or are not present in the controller swing. For example, the mouse swing puts a premium on backswing to downswing speed ratios, that's not part of the controller dynamic. Secondly, the mouse isn't anchored at a pivot point like the controller so it's possible to hit the ball off center with the mouse, like off the toe or the heel, for example.
I actually do better with the real time mouse swing in terms of scoring performance in this game, but I'm so married to the tactile resistance of the thumbstick controller that I can't think about giving it up. I also sit in a recliner in front of my 55" HDTV display when I play Perfect Golf and it doesn't lend itself to mouse operation very well, as I need a flat table top. I've rigged something up to accomplish that, but in the end, I just don't enjoy the gameplay experience as much. The controller swing winds up modeling the golf experience more to my liking, but this is a subjective thing in which opinions will vary widely.
