To the Dev's at PG, could you clear something up for us?  Recently I asked a question and used the term AI (artificial intelligence) to describe the in-game golfer that we would use to swing the clubs in cyber golf..

Well, you wouldn't believe how some people were so confused over the term AI, so I will accept that maybe it wasn't the proper term, so to eliminate any further confusion could you Please tell ALL of US what term you use at PG to describe the golfer that we will eventually use to swing the clubs?

Thank you.......

Computer Players are any players that are playing in the game not directly controlled by a player.  Whether that is a downloaded round by a PGA Tour player or just a player that is playing along driven by the computer

AI we also use to discuss our work around how non human controlled players, officials, spectators etc move around within the 3D environment.  So for example say you are going to play Perfect Golf in Walk mode and you are playing with a computer player.  Once you have both hit your tee shot you will need to walk to your ball.  The computer player will also need to start walking to his ball and will use AI to determine the path he walks on to get to his ball...

Make sense?

Yes, makes perfect sense, everything that is NOT controlled by US is AI....

So what term do you use to describe the Player that IS controlled by Us?

Thanks Andrew, for everything....

Internally we use the term Player Animation for the on screen animation that is being controlled by the player

Andrew,

Will PG have a feature that allows for creation of  "computer players" and "player animations" similar to what Links have using the Golfer Utility?

Pete Butcher, Noel Kilner and I just completed a Rickie Fowler Ani (available at Links AniMasters). I enjoy doing this type of thing since I have absolutely no skill (or patience) to do course construction.

I of course would have no idea Richard... TW's always seemed to have it and I rather enjoyed customizing my golfer..

This seems to  be a Links dominated game so if you say Links had it then maybe the chances are good..

I think they may have a lot on their plate right now but it doesn't seem like a hard question to answer, maybe they just haven't revisited this thread?

Hang in there...

axe,

Thanks for the response. I noticed that Andrew responded to a number of posts today and I was disappointed that this wasn't one of therm. :(   Of course, I'll "hang in there" :)

Good A.I. is hard to program, so I expect computer players will be a long way down the road from PP's initial launch of Perfect Golf. I'm sure they would like to add it in, eventually though.  ;)

Human player customization is much more likely to be an option.

IDS,

I guess you didn't see AJ's reply over in the When? thread.....

Yup what he said.

The simulator version is nearing release that is the good news, which means that all the components of the golf game required for the Sim are complete.  Once released we will be moving on to the PC Game specific items.  We really really want to get it out this year.
