We crave the feeling that Rory felt as he ripped his 3 wood to within 7 feet on the 10th at Valhalla. If the publisher of a golf sim could somehow enable us to become Rory for a fleeting cyber moment - if through the power and technological magnificence of computing - we could possibly come within even the slightest frisson of how Rory felt then that publishing entity would then become , not only the most successful gaming house on earth, but the most admired and exalted of all gaming houses and stand proudly atop a mountain of human achievement, And I don't say that lightly.

But how could this be achieved? What you cannot do is have every Tom, Dick and Harry clicking their crappy little plastic mouse ( even the horrible nomenclative form of rodential (why is there a red squiggly line under every unusual word) description of the method of whacking a cyber golf ball demeans and belittles the action) and doing what Rory did with that unforgettable shot. No, no no.

One has to earn that beautiful moment through experience, training, dedication, nouse, commitment and a little bit of luck. Just a little bit, just a little bit of bloomin' luck. (RNG). That is want I want in a golf sim. I want a birdie to be a reward for my intellectualism and my skill and good luck and not something that I expect every hole. I want to set out every round on my course and battle for every par let alone birdie or eagle god forbid. We don't need 50 courses (of dubious quality) - we could actually play one course for ever until we mastered every bounce off every hillock or grew accustomed to the nuances of every green. IRL, In REAL LIFE, we would gladly play the same course every day, every morning and every afternoon because we want to beat the course. I was appalled when someone said the artists were dedicating their time to building 50 courses (and from what I've seen they are of dubious quality) instead of allocating time to gameplay. Someone said, "well we have to have something to play on" - One bloody course is all we need. I get so angry.

One day, ONE DAY, we will have the golf sim we deserve.

And I'll say this....

They mauled Valhalla. They ripped it apart. It doesn't matter if it was soft from rain - they tore it apart. And yet the greatest players on earth only managed less than -20 after 72 holes. (I had to go to work when Rory got to the 16th and I don't know the final total). I never ever want to see a golf sim with scores consistently better than that. This is your challenge Mr Developer. Give us a sim that stands toe to toe with us and makes us rise to it's level, It can be done and it WILL be successful.

So you think a -4 average score on each round is  something you don't want to be easily achievable on a golf video game.

I'm sure all you're dreams for this game will come true when we can all expect you'll be playing Elite with all aids turned off, Simple isn't it

A golf game or sim can never be like a real golf experience. Computer programming is pure math and a golf sim player will be able to use the math to score low. Look at the scores at Links 2003 which still is the best SIM. I constantly played very low scores because of pure math. Every (sorry!!) idiot could use my charts and play a -18 on Augusta. Once we get to elite the game changes alot, but it will still be a game and ppl will find out how to play low scores. I don't talk about cheating, I talk about math and experience. Whoever wants to play like Rory needs to go out on the links but he shouldn't buy a computer game.

With true swing and the possibility to tinker with the sensitivity of the mouse swing? It should be possible to set up the preferred level of difficulty for everybody. Options!

There are a lot of options to make the game or the swing more difficult: small margin of error for pushing the mouse left or right when swinging. slight miss of perfect swing speed/rhythm could result in a loss or gain of length. Implement the possibility to hit the ball a little thin or fat.

All those things should be customizable. So everybody can have the golf sim experience that he likes.

I agree, Options is what makes the game interesting for everyone. But still, however you make the swing harder, ppl. will get used to it and play low scores on every level. It is a fact.

Saying "True swing" (aka RTS in Links2003) makes me think of the (thankfully) few times I was accused of edging (most of the time because they were losing).  I'm bringing this up because I would hope they (devs) can make it so one can't edge without maybe getting penalized somehow, etc. Kinda discouraging actually to be accused of edging when you have a nice game going. Anyway I know this may be slightly off thread (not sure what the thread topic actually is actually  :D  - just wanted to mention that. Thanks.

I have reached the end of 'Gulag Archipelago'. Is it any wonder I have cracked under the ordeal of waiting for a game to come out. I sympathized with the author. It's not the stasis of a captive life that is the torture, it's not knowing when it ends.

When I have my surface flaws eradicated by the 'steam' from the solid form of carbon dioxide, I always ask the doctor how long it will take.

I keep thinking about PG. It sustains me.

Is there anybody out there?

Is there anybody out there?

Is there anybody out there?

Is there anybody out there?

Maybe it should be "Is there anybody in here?"

ESTRAGON:
Charming spot.  Inspiring prospects.  Let's go.
VLADIMIR:
               We can't.
ESTRAGON:
               Why not?
VLADIMIR:
              We're waiting for Pergo.
ESTRAGON:
Ah!  You're sure it was here?
VLADIMIR:
              What?
ESTRAGON:
              That we were to wait.
VLADIMIR:
He said by the tree. (They look at the tree.) Do you see any others?
ESTRAGON:
              What is it?
VLADIMIR:
            I don't know. A willow. (*snicker.Ed.)
ESTRAGON:
            Where are the leaves?
VLADIMIR:
            It must be dead.
ESTRAGON:
            No more weeping.

I'm at work so I've got time to check out the forums at The Golf Club. In fact the Steam TGC forum. Well what a mess that game is. Major, major issues for the PC. And stumpy legged avatars as well. (The whole TGC avatar species could be the missing link). I'm almost feeling sorry for the poor saps at HBStudios.

One positive that comes from that debacle is that PP will learn how not to release a PC golf sim. The negative is that it will probably take much longer (if it ever gets released at all). Anyway, back to Skyrim. I wonder if I could make a golf stick mod for that game. My avatar (good looking dude) has normal legs.

Not to disappoint but the fact is that you will NEVER get a "sim" golf game because there are too many conditions and variables that simply can not be recreated on a console or PC.

The feeling of the ground under your feet, the movement and changes of the breeze, the ability of being able to properly read a green are just a few examples of things that a PC can never give you.
