I'm way out of the loop, can anyone fill me in? Is this game being beta tested right now? Is it to late for me to sign up if it is?

As far as I know (and I'm not in the loop), there is no testing going on right now - except testing done by the Devs themselves. Next up for the larger public, i.e. Kickstarter backers and other interested parties, is the release of the CourseForge course architect alpha version. No idea when this will be, A.J. posted it would be "very soon". But we all know that when a Dev of any software outfit tells you "very soon", this means "soonish" at best - a very slow sort of a very cruel soon.

I'm pretty sure that once the CF alpha is available, there will be an announcement to this effect and a possibilty for members to register for it.

I believe they said by the end of the year for CF.

Yes, sooner rather than later, one would be pointless without the other... I'm not privvy to the release strategy, but I would suppose they are rushing the CourseForge out first because it's much nearer to their core competence (3D golf visualization) and they want to generate some buzz with it.

If I were marketing the game I would release the Courseforge a few weeks/months before the game, that way there would already be a large number of playable courses available upon the game's release...

Chicken and egg issue here: To design a sutiable course and place tee boxes judiciously, you would need to know average club lengths and things lake bounce and roll on both slow and very fast surface. And if you can add real backspin on the ball or not. All this would be reflected in the course design and determine hole lengths and pin placements etc...  Not saying your reasoning is wrong, gary, just observing that the game should not follow too far behind.

thing is, you have to actually be able to play the game so that you can play test the course as you build it...

Unless this is going to be some kind of cartoon thing but every one of the 25 or so courses I have built including one coming out this week, for the Tigerwoods 08 PC game, you cant do it unless there is a way to install the course you are building, into the actual game so you can fix errors and check your work out as you go hole by hole, bunker by bunker, lake by lake, fairway by fairway, green by green etc etc..

I seem to recall somewhere that it was mentioned you could test the course from within Courseforge...  (unless I'm going mad!!)

Not to argue but I would not/ could not release a golf course that I built, unless I was able to play test it withing the actual game, I just couldn't do that... Nor would I ever..

I guess we will have to wait for more info on this matter... Thank you for the replies... :)

Yes, that's correct. My bad for the incorrect information.

I think the only type of confirmation that we can get on this is from the CF video. After he's doing creating his hole, he just hits a button or two and then jumps right in and plays it. Perhaps this will be embedded in CF, but different than PG.

I've built and released a few of TW08 myself, and I completely agree with your point...  :)

AJ posted this in another thread, so things are moving forward on both the designing and playing fronts.....

We appreciate the community desire for information. So here is a quick update on a few things. We are currently building into all our applications the licensing methodology that is needed to control software releases. We need to do this so we can turn off beta software releases. I hope to finish the course converter soon. I thought I was done and we were going to release it with the site but then I found the bing maps API and thought that would be cool. So expect a news item with the course converter and bing maps video next week. Also coming soon a video showing a shot being hit. We have been working hard on the ground physics engine the last two weeks and hope to show that in video. Yes folks the first shots in anger inside perfect golf have been hit. We want to integrate the swing meter before we show it though

Hi:

As a tester of custom designed courses for the Tiger Woods series for seven years and a beta tester for TWO almost from it's beginning,  I agree with Axe 360!!

Designers and testers will need to have the game in which to test they're custom designed courses to be certain that they're designs work properly in the game,

and/or if any changes to they're designs are necessary.

I'll looking forward to trying my hand with the CourseForge when it is released also.

Make it a super day.
