I bought a GTX 6 GB 1060 video card and had my son install it tonight.  It replaced my 4GB GTX 960 card.  Still getting some stuttering.  I have it set at the following:

Resolution - 1920 X 1080

Graphics - High

Anti aliasing and Sky scattering - On

Tree Quality - 3.00

Max Tree Quality - Medium

Shadow - 300

Grass - 150

Camera - 2000

What is the difference between Tree Quality and Max Tree Quality?

I have a I-5  4570 with 16 GB RAM and my O/S is Windows 7.  I have validated the game files and they are all okay.  I noticed that my CPU usage was about 70% when JNPG is running.  Could my CPU  be too slow?

I am wondering if maybe I should un-install JNPG and the re-install to see if that helps although with the validation of all the files you wouldn't think this is the problem.  Can someone tell me the procedure for un-installing and then reinstalling?

I sent an e-mail directly to PP but no replay so any comments or help on my problem and also on how to re-install would be much appreciated.

One of things with me that caused graphics stuttering (even with the 1060) is having the comet trail turned on.  No stutters with it turned off completely!  Just try the game with the various comet trail settings to see.

Thanks for the reply but I already have the ball tracer option turned off.  I see that your system is similar to mine except faster CPU.  Frustrating as I was hoping the new video card would be the fix. I am curious, what is your CPU usage percentage when playing the game?  Are you using Windows 7?

I have an older i7-2600 runs at 3.4 GHz QuadCore. 16GB DDR3 RAM. I'm at Hole #2 of Black Wolf Run (River). This hole gives my system a good fps challenge. CPU is running 25%-32% and it is utilizing 22% RAM. Make sure your system is recognizing and using the new Video Card and not inadvertently using any on-board graphics capabilities.

With the card you have the i5- 4570 you should be just below my 3.4 GHz at 3.2 standard and you have a QuadCore and 16GB RAM as well. Your game should run just fine and should not be using anywhere near 70+ %. Go into STEAM and right click on the JNPG game in your library and select Properties. Select Delete Local Game Content. Restart STEAM and either allow the new install or if you have auto-install enabled the game will download and reinstall. Make sure your new Graphics Card is being recognized and make sure you have the latest deliver for the game.

I still get stuttering on some courses holes although the following settings have improved the situation on the Hole I mentioned earlier (I used it as a benchmark). Here are my settings:

Ultra High (custom)

VSync OFF

Antialasing ON

Vignette & Bloom Off

Sun Effects OFF

Sky Scattering Effect ON

Adaptive Lighting ON

Tree Quality 2.0

Max Tree Quality Medium

Shadow Distance 200

Grass Object Distance 300

Camera View Distance 2000

Pause Render On Swing OFF

I play the RTSH input method. I'm not exactly sure what the differences in Tree Quality and Max Tree Quality are other than they combine to make the trees more 3 dimensional in view and more detailed, some kind of combination will give the best results. I'm also not sure exactly how to make sure your video card is being recognized by the game or your system. Perhaps someone else can help there if you do not know how. If you do and you know this is not the issue then it would not hurt to reinstall the game.

One of my friends has a new comp with a fast i7 cpu and the GTX1070 card and he still gets stutters.  The problem is on PG's end.  There are far too many with high end comps who have these issues.

I was using windows 7 before but am now on windows 10.  Both os's have stutters and slide on 3rd click.  I have a 6 core i7 cpu that runs at 25% while playing PG.  Since I too get stutters I highly doubt it is your cpu that is the issue.

CPU usage varies by course and even within the hole - 25%Min-60%Max but mostly often in the 30-40% range.  Using Windows 10.  I see there is another Nvidia driver update which may help.

Some courses/holes show noticeable problems with smooth gameplay at high settings.  E.g. Hole #2 and #13 tee shots at Augusta give a noticeable hit for my system (and everybody's probably) and you would almost certainly see the 'stutter'.

My system does recognize and is using the GTX 1060 video card.  It is showing up under Device Manager where it indicates that it is working properly.  In Steam under the Games tab there is an option to "Activate a Product".  Is this how you manually reinstall JNPG?

I have another game, Combat Mission installed that is graphics intensive.  You can have dozens of tanks and individual soldiers on the move and it is only using about 25% of CPU so maybe JNPG could be improved in that regard.  Hopefully this will be addressed in a future update.

If you are a 3 clicker, increase grass and camera distance to max, make sure Pause Render On Swing is On.  See if that makes any difference.

Just go into your library in the steam menu, click on jnpg then to the right a button should show up that says install game or something to that affect.

The only way to fix my 3 click stuttering is turning the VSync to ON every frame.

Yes, I agree that more optimization will improve things. I fully expect the team to always have some kind of eye on optimization and I'm reasonably sure the development team is not done with game and code optimization.

If it's a non-optimized build, maybe that would explain things.  But for me, 1.4.1.3 is the first build that doesn't run well on my computer - all others have been fine with mostly Ultra high settings.  I have changed no hardware on my computer, and the only software change would be a video driver update (or maybe two - it's been almost a month since I last played).  Even with lowering settings, view distance, shadows, etc., there remains significant stuttering with my RTSH swing.

I've also noticed that despite having a FPS reported in the low to mid 30s, there is stuttering on the swing and shot in the game - previously, I only had this when FPS dropped below 30.  I've only played ±25 holes (18 of them at Castle Heights), but the course didn't seem to matter - at least in my very limited testing.  My computer is as follows:

Radeon Software Version - 16.10.1
Radeon Software Edition - Crimson
Graphics Chipset - AMD Radeon ™ R9 200 Series
Memory Size - 2048 MB
Memory Type - GDDR5
Core Clock - 925 MHz
Windows Version - Windows 10 (64 bit)
System Memory - 24 GB
CPU Type - Intel® Core™ i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz

I'm going to uninstall and then reinstall to see if there is any impact.  Failing that, I'll revert back one or two driver versions to see if that makes a difference.   I, personally, wouldn't think that this build is less optimized than previous builds, but I guess it's possible ...

If your son is computer savvy have him look at your Windows power settings. You want everything set to high/full power use for playing. I even went to the trouble of making a control panel power shortcut on my taskbar so I can switch it manually. Runs great here on a much lesser machine until I forget and leave the power saver settings on, then it's a stuttering PITA.

Beware that there also may be automatic power changes initiated by your BIOS, good idea to turn those off also.

Playing Full Screen

VSync ON every frame

Tree quality 2 (I read somewhere that 3 is overkill)

Max tree quality High

shadow 250

grass 500

cam view 5000

Pause render ON

As Mulligan says above Power settings on High Performance

Currently playing at MS Pro

I generally get a reasonably steady 60 fps apart from the well known hot spots on some courses where it can dip to 30 fps, but generally stable at 60 fps.
