why is there a big black shadow over my course when i try to zoom in  and alter the terrian? if you zoom out it clears up if you zoom in it gets very dark.is there something turned on that shouldent be,in the settings.any suggestions appreaciated.

I could think of three reasons for why that could happen: Z-fighting, Shadow Akne, a ticked Auto box at the bottom of your lighting settings that must be unticked. 

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE post a screen shot of your issue so that I can narrow it down.

 

EVERYBODY, we want to help, but PLEASE provide visuals! This will speed up troubleshooting considerably!

Put a human height marker on the map then double click it in heirachy to zoom to it, the shadow will be gone.

Common things happen commonly and this is the most common thing I see when building. My fix is actually selecting a planting tool or terrain tool and hovering blue circle on terrain and hitting "F KEY" DoGgz solution will work as well. In future, it is best to present question with a picture as K11 says. Read this post a few down from yours.
