I'm roughing out hole 8 of my first course and I can't decide if I want to go with this fairway landing area.

As you can see a safe play to the right takes out a green in two.. To carry the far left fairway strip requires a 90% Driver or full 3wood plus some. There's a tree a hundred yards from the tee blocking a straight shot so a draw is required.

Here's a better look at the landing area.

Do you guys think this is a realistic looking landing area? Or is it contrived?

The landing area is challenging and looks fine to me.

Not sure why'd you have that strip of rough beyond the left fairway as opposed to having it rejoin the fairway up the left side.

Looks good from my point of view. And I agree 100% with jc.

I agree with JC and will add that the strip of fairway between the two set of bunkers seems a bit narrow. Personally, I would widen it just a bit so there is more landing area.

Build it - play it - test it. Course design theorising can only get you so far... I find that certainty either way always comes from gameplay and that's why I iterate a lot, and as soon as possible, between play-testing and design work.

Course design by referendum is not advisable - it's impossible to please all of the people all of the time, so please only yourself and act with the impunity of a dictator.
