Terrain: Scene or Level Height Baundaries?

The terrain height setting is cutting you off. If you change it you will lose the sculpting you've done so far unless you use an asset that allows such changes to be made.  

 

You could use a mountain mesh and insert it where you like.  Several course use this method.

 

If it is in the background you could use a second terrain and set the terrain height setting very high.  Sculpt the mountain on this second terrain then position the terrain so the mountain shows to your liking.  There should be a tutorial video on "outer terrains" that explains this.  Check the tutorial video section.  Hope that helps!

Hi,

 

i'm trying to sculpt a mountain with the terrain tool because my theme is calling for a big mountain in the background like for example Mt.Hood.

 

But somehow it feels like there is a limit in height and the top is starting to get flat like hitting its head to the ceiling.

 

So the question is: Is there a possibility to edit the height allowed in the scene (Without f***** up FPS or causing other problems)?

 

Or, is this anyway the wrong way to accomplish such thing and should it better be done via some mountain-asset or mega scaled rock-asset?

 

Please could somebody give me a hint in the right direction :)

thank you very much for your quick explanation. Somehow this arises new questions regarding your answer lol ...

Should i understand this as one method? Do you mean with mesh terrain and visversa?

 

2. What tutorial section you are referring to? In Mike Jones Tutorials here on PP i could not find a video with the title "outer terrains" ... that would be really helpfull. Do you mean Unity tutorials or YouTube with "tutorial video section"?

Trying to create a mountain on your small 2km by 2km plot will not end up looking very good IMO there simply isn't room for it. There are other options available such as importing a 3d mountain mesh and placing off to the side of the terrain (like Crystal Pines)
