Found this while checking out ARMA 3

SILVADOR

Using algorithmic approach, the 'Silvador Tree Generator' program is employed to handle the creation of plants in Arma 3. Licensed from Bohemia Interactive Simulations, this software helps to create a vast array of realistic plant life - adding even more diversity and detail to the Arma 3's atmospheric Altis and Stratis environments.

Could we use something like this in the CF

Also is Arma 3 worth purchasing?

If ever, you would need to add this to Unity - CF is a Unity add-on and all the tree planting is done in Unity, without any CF involvement.

I would not know much about the Silvador software, but Unity 5 (the next major update of Unity 3D), will come with SpeedTree support. Speed tree is another specialised tree generation software. They offer very similar features to the ones shown in the Silvador clip you linked.

I hadn't heard of Silvador - it could be useful except that, like Speedtree, it looks prohibitively expensive for community course designers (Speedtree for Unity 5 is $19/month). The free lite version of Silvador doesn't appear to export, making it useless.

The $19 per month is just to be able to make trees.. Rest assured we will be making a ton of trees for use with Course Forge once it is released and we have moved CF  and PG over to Unity 5.

Have never played it, but it does look very good.

Comments I often read about it are that it is a very good game, graphically excellent, plenty to do in the game with loads of missions etc. but one thing that seems to crop up in a lot of comments is that there are a lot of bugs and whilst these don't spoil the game for the majority there are obviously issues caused by the bugs.

Currently on Steam for £35.99. Might be waiting until Black Friday and see if it gets a discount applied for a short period, as may then be well worth you snapping it up if military games are your thing.

Glad to hear this. With the standard Speedtree license not allowing trees to be distributed, I was concerned the cost of distributing tons of trees just wouldn't be feasible.

I was playing couple of last days with speedtree in U5, can tell you it is simply amazing, all trees looking great, LOD, wind and occlusion settings works just fine that a massive jump forward.        http://postimg.org/image/pwuyzpmyt/

I could not think of anything worse than drawing a shape and dropping the same type of tree in it, forest tool in the TW CA, it can take me a good 2 to 3 weeks to plant tree's as close to were I see them in ortho imagery.

TW is limited to what tree's one can plant unless you go back a decade or more to 03 to 07, some plantings can have a disasterous effect on your shot making ability around the course, one can take a shot and have the ball hit nothing and go no were, if the wrong planting is used, even if its not close to the fairway.

I played the previous version, if this version is anything like that one, you need a friggin' rendering rack just to get it to play decently. At the time I was running SLi 680's, i7, Raptor drive, 16gb, win7 64.... and it was hard to squeeze 40fps out of it on high settings.  It is a very cool game though, very detailed.
