adding a background

Best Answer DPRoberts , 02 November 2016 - 08:06 PM

You've got several loaded questions in here. I will try and tackle the mountains and leave the others to the others. Adding mountains in the background can be done in 3 ways in my mind.
#1 - (may be the most straightforward) - add another terrain as a 3D object and contour by hand or import a mountain heightmap and paint to effect. You can add as many of these as you like around the periphery of your CF terrain to obstructive the horizon view. A grid of 8 additional terrains with your CF terrain in the centre would work (9 terrains total) I would advise decreasing the resolution of the peripheral terrains as the extra tris are not needed. I have used Map Magic to procedurally generate some terrain plots but don't necessarily condone, advise or support if it implodes your build. It works but don't try it on your masterpiece. Do a trial project with it.

#2 - download or build a mountain as a 3d mesh and import and place just like you would a rock. Place multiple around to obstruct view as desired.

#3 (probably the answer you really wanted) - create or download a different sky with mountains. Not as easy to do as you would think and comes with limitations. These can be placed in your Lighting tab and change out Default-sky material. It is only seen in game with Dynamic Sky off. It can be done as a 6 sided cube or as an import of hdri and used as a cubemap. I would recommend downloading a free sky from the Asset Store but I've not seen any good ones there. Once you Google and understand any of this above, I recommend finding the free hdri available at 4096x2048 on the web and converting to a cubemap in Unity.

i may have missed this somewhere ,but how do you add mountains in the background.im guessing this is done in unity not courseforge.thanks

also have another question ,im having trouble with drops out of a lateral water hazard.it should not let me have the option to play out of the water.i have followed mikes tutorial  without success.can out of bounds and water hazard splines cross over each other at any point.

Lateral Water Hazard Splines must include regular Water

Hazard Splines, usually on the ends. Water Hazard Splines,

and the O.B. spline can cross other Splines without interference.

One way a lot of us do it is to create a second terrain in Unity that sits just underneath the first one, and expand it out so covers a larger area. Then you can dramatically raise the second terrain around the outside and make hills and mountains without changing the main terrain that contains the course.

The beta forum had a tutorial on this but I don't know if Mike has got around to a public version yet.

If you're not getting a drop option from a hazard chances are you haven't set the physic material on the water mesh to water.

Everything else should be automatically set, it was my mistake when setting the water meshes not to automatically include the water collider.

I was encountering the same issue and Mike's fix worked for me too.  Glad to see it resolved here.

So it is OK to go into the water assets provided and add the water physics material there so that going forward on that project it will be there as we add water planes? I'm guessing this would have to be done for every new project until the next Course Forge update.
