Terrain File From New Unity Version

Best Answer Mike Jones , 06 November 2016 - 05:34 PM

Thanks. No, I just want the terrain so I don't have to re sculpt the land for my 2nd course. It's fun, but it's a time suck.

You can always save the heightmap from the terrain inspector window and then import that heightmap onto your new terrain. If all you want is the elevations that will definitely work.

Prior to CF's release, I was using Unity 5.3.6. to learn. Is it possible to copy the terrain file from that one and load it into this version of Unity that CF runs on?

Not sure if one version to the next is completely incompatible or if just some files are, but it would be wonderful to use that plot of terrain for my 2nd course.

Thanks,

Nick

This might need proper confirmation, but I think you might be OK to use the terrain from5.3.6 in 5.2.3

I think the major issues are where folks have actually started using CF with a particular version of Unity and then both CF and Unity get updated, it is then that a proper conversion process is needed.

Maybe if you make a copy of the terrain file (so you still have your original to fall back on) and then try the copy and see how it goes.

Not something I have tried but you can try it and lets us know how it works. If it's the entire project you're talking about then it will likely not be backwards compatible with 5.2.3

I would imagine that the terrain file itself is unlikely to change in format with different Unity versions so I don't see there being a problem.
